When I booked this job, I immediately flashed back to the summer of my sophomore year in high school when I was working as an apprentice at @mtwichita . I remember learning about Wicked for the first time, and I would drive and belt along with the windows down, learning the harmony to “As Long As You’re Mine” by playing it over and over. I didn’t even know then that I wanted to pursue acting as a career, just that I was falling in love with the world of theater.
A couple of years later, when I was a freshman in college, I was in NY for spring break at @ocunyc , and I asked a casting director of Wicked what I should do, because I wasn’t really a Fiyero, but I was too tall for Boq. Her reply was simply “maybe Wicked just won’t happen for you then.” I think you can guess how a freshman in college felt hearing this.
Flash forward to getting an audition where I’m told, “you have to do the Elphaba riff.” The way I have never felt more confident and ready for anything in my entire life, as though my whole life had been leading to that moment.
To have this full circle moment of not only living as a working actor now, but also to be a small tangential part of Wicked, I’m just so very grateful to @_alicebrooks_@blowupgirls@rosslacycasting and everyone else involved for giving me this moment.

These people will write anything to convince you to be paid nothing for both AI and in perpetuity!! They just write, “they are abiding by SAG-AFTRA AI laws” and expect actors to just fall for it and give everything away.

This was on a breakdown for a production of Anything Goes.
So originally they wrote two very racist Asian characters… then they changed it two problematic Asian roles… to now cutting the Asian characters out completely…
Sounds about white.

UPDATE: California labor law requires 30 days to disburse payment. SAG-AFTRA however requires disbursing within a (3) three, (5) five, or (7) seven day cycle. The three day requirement is for TV/TH checks, the five day requirement is for commercials checks and the seven day requirement is for out-of-state checks.

If you’re a SAG-AF member repped by KMR, you are not obligated to pay commission from here on out. But anything that was paid before today is still owed to KMR.
Also, no SAG-AF members can sign or renew a contract with KMR. This may sound unfair, especially if anyone’s still learning about all this, but it’s to make sure performers work with agencies that pay their clients appropriately.
