Turning to a shallow green as it combines with the curacao and orange drink mix from the tourists cocktail too far
Rhythm and gossip fill the thick humid air
A quick dropping of eaves clears your mind of the usual stream of anxiety
But only briefly as you worry
Did I eat enough charred Dominican chicken to be satisfied
Did I eat too much
Is that man more attractive than I am
Ill bet I'm a more interesting conversation
Yes, I am a better time
At least after a few cocktails of rum, curacao and orange drink mix to give a jarringly quick boost to my spirits lifting me out of the usual seemingly perpetual pit of wallow and despair
I wish so dearly this was my base state
My buzz follows the tide as my casual bereft of chalance demeanor is taken from me by the familiar wail of a sober pondering mind
What better way to wrangle rational self torment and doubt than to return to Andre the Dominican bartender with the voice like that of a grinding zipline whose speed is only matched by his gifted dexterouse display of aerial rum and syrup
Juggling each bottle catching them at phalice height and suggestively pouring into your cup as if to say "this one's from me"
As I'm interrupted by the present to take a picture my shoe is submerged in brine and I consider myself alive if only briefly
Back to the gift shop economy corrupted gateway to paradise was just an hours bus ride through jungles presumably once pristine now littered with disposable remains of good times passed
