this one is cute cuz I get to think of my sister @roisingunkelly every time I sing the chorus, she’s my original star sign tutor and would walk me through me being emotional af like no eimear this isn’t your Aries Sun this IS your cancer moon. i’m very grateful for any mystical advice and all tarot readings I got when she was still in the country ✨🔮
was having a look through the voice memos and actually wrote this one in February 2021. which is INSANE because was only seeing someone for about a month (and would continue to see them for another year) when I was already writing a song like this 💀
I originally wrote cancer moon on the piano but when I was doing my producer lockdown last year I found this arp plug-in that completely inspired the direction of the rest of the song. Piano ballad no longer!! It became so spacey and almost Pink Floydy with that arp and I remember being soooo stoked with myself that it immediately became my favourite demo haha. Have attached a slide of me first collating the sounds.
asked my og collaborator @adamrivers__ to hop on this one and polish it all up with his 3am magic 🪄 I was in a clinical trial at the time when we were workshopping the production and I remember he sent me a mix back with the bass coming in at the pre-chorus and I got chills sitting in the ward LIKE YESSSS THIS IS IT. felt so privileged to share making a song together again <3
We also got the ever lovely @ironyinbound to play drums on this one for me!!! did a lil recording sesh way back in september last year 😮💨 thank you kane for bringing your energy to the song!!!
anyway enough yapping from me hahaha, it’s just lovely to have a space to reflect on how far one little song has come on a journey. thank you for all those that were apart of it <3

when I first wrote this, I thought it was just a little song that I was never gonna sing for anyone and it’d just be for me when I needed to validate my feelings of bad self-worth. I used to think the writing was a bit crappy and too simple, but idk sometimes the simplest things actually age the best.
Picked up this song again last year when I was doing a full demo lockdown on myself and this was the first one I made of the lot. Still remember playing this to adam after the first demo making day and being like wait I think I actually made something good?! Thank u for being my first listener @adamrivers__ and for the encouragement. I was so proud that I made something like this and it really set me up to have faith in myself for finishing the rest of my projects to the best of my abilities as a producer.
In January, I asked Noema if he wanted to hop on this track after we’d finished Limbo and he magicked it up in such a thoughtful yet understated way. Thank you for sharing your wonderful craft @noema_iii <3
In terms of the writing, demean me was a lyric that captured the feeling of KNOWING you deserve better but still craving the person treating you like shit regardless.
I’m still trying to unlearn that knee jerk reaction haha, but having this song coming out feels like progress :)
