Sadie Adler buildbook for my #astl competition piece! This is a simple build but involved a lot of smart planning about simple techniques! She’s definitely different from pretty much every other competition piece I’ve done, but it was refreshing to work with natural fibers and be introduced to leather work! “Nobody’s taking nothing from me ever again.” Made over the course of two weeks, Sadie Adler wasn’t super difficult to make - but imagine my surprise when I put this cosplay on and it felt so comfortable. Sadie isn’t just a comfortable cosplay to wear physically but it’s one of the first times I’ve just felt hot in a cosplay. It’s not revealing, and she isn’t a character which is noted as beautiful but something about cosplaying as a crass, loud-mouthed, angry woman that transcends the expectations of women in 1899 felt more like me than any other cosplay I’ve done. A more serious post regarding age, bodies, and confidence in cosplay. I have been cosplaying for 21 years, I grew up and went through my awkward teens and young adulthood in cosplay and it took me until this year to really feel confident not in my ability to craft - but in the way I hold myself and my appearance. This is an INCREDIBLY appearance heavy hobby in which if we aren’t aware of our physical flaws, we are made aware. And regardless of the amount of deconstruction you do on beauty standards, you are still impacted by them every moment of every day. Regardless of how pretty I may be objectively, there is a single character in which I FEEL pretty and that is Sadie. In her I am not trying to be cute, or young, or a bombshell. I am just being a crass, loud, and messy human. That is what RDR2 gave me, and I am incredibly grateful. The amount of comments from those who have known me for years saying that I hold myself with a level of confidence they’ve never seen in Sadie is so validating and mirrors how I feel internally in her. I’m not in my 20s anymore - I have wrinkles, I have body hair, I have pimples and scars and my teeth aren’t great due to a childhood without dental care. But in Sadie I can just be a normal human being - and I’m only sad that it took me this long to find myself in a character who is a firecracker of a woman. Most of the photos by @ssweet_bret

#astl was an ABSOLUTE BLAST, and the most fun I’ve had at a con in a long, long time! On Friday we all went to the zoo before the con and saw so many cute and amazing animals (and a LOT of birds) Then we got into #evangelion cosplays and rocked the entire town being goofy and having fun. I don’t usually do cosplay groups because I get stressed out but I’m rethinking my stance because when it’s with the right folks, it’s all fun times. Saturday was the comp and like I expected, the green room vibes were PEAK! @ssweet_bret walked away with a judges award, the new prodigy I finally got to meet, @mimicrycosplay got best journeyman, lineup friend @blushingvioletcosplay win best masters, and @thefruitdog absolutely knocked it out of the park, earning best in show! MASSIVE shout out to @sew.steph for being my vision handler and @nerdshark_ for bringing the best energy to our little line crew (and just being an overall amazing person the entire weekend) I got to finally meet @malinda_chan which is weird since we’ve both been doing this forever in the Midwest but never had the chance to meet. She’s just as sweet as everyone said she is! I didn’t get much sleep because our room, which included Steph, Bret, and @justhencos couldn’t stop yapping. I made the best memories this weekend and had such an amazing time that I just wanna cry. Thank you all for being so sweet and kind, midwest cons reign king and have the best vibes of all!
