The ITL Conference 2026 in Toronto welcomed internationally trained lawyers from across Canada, US and Europe to the Marriott Downtown at CF Toronto Eaton Centre for three days of community, networking and shared learning.
Following our inaugural conference in Calgary last year, this year reflected the continued growth of a national community, culminating in a memorable gala evening.

Community Impact Award Winner – Angela Ogang
This award is presented to an internationally trained lawyer who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to serving and uplifting their community through advocacy, legal advocacy, pro bono work or community-driven initiatives. It also recognizes exemplary commitment to justice and meaningful impact in advancing the interests of ITLs, their clients, and the broader community.

Leadership in Legal Education Award Winner – Directions for Immigrants
This award honours an individual or institution that has demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation in providing educational support and resources to help internationally trained lawyers integrate into the Canadian legal profession. It also recognizes exceptional contributions to legal scholarship, research, publications and academic advancement within the Canadian legal education system.
Since 2004, Directions for Immigrants, operated by Bow Valley College, has supported internationally trained professionals in securing professional employment and navigating accreditation processes in regulated professions across Alberta. The legal exam preparation study groups span eight core subjects and since 2020 they have supported nearly 600 internationally trained lawyers with a 94% exam pass rate.

Trailblazer in Technology Award Winner– Yonida Koukio
