This morning we had the privilege of gathering with the parents and some grandparents of our iThemba children 💚
Parents play such a vital role in the lives of their children — they are their first teachers, their greatest encouragers, and the foundation on which a child’s future is built.
We spoke about the powerful role of fathers and male role models in children’s lives. Research shows that when fathers are present and engaged, it can play a significant role in breaking cycles of poverty and shaping confident, resilient children.
A special thank you to Little Zebra Books, who reminded parents of the incredible importance of reading to their children. Those simple daily moments with a book help grow language, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning. 📚
We were also encouraged by Pastor Sponz, who shared a message from the Bible about the calling and responsibility of parents to guide their children with wisdom, love, and faith.
These mornings remind us that when schools, families, and community partners walk together, real transformation is possible.

✨A beautiful morning of learning and discovery for our Grade R’s 🌱☀️
We were so blessed to spend time @the.neighbourhood.farm ... an inspiring community farm and outdoor classroom right here in our community!!!
Our children were treated to a delightful puppet show, followed by an engaging lesson on summer vegetables 🥕🥬 They didn’t just learn about veggies — they saw them, touched them, smelled them, and even tasted a wonderful variety! There is something so powerful about hands-on learning in nature 💚!
👀We explored their flourishing community garden, where our children witnessed what beautifully grown, healthy vegetables look like straight from the soil .
They helped with weeding, watched carrots being gently pulled from the earth, and experienced the joy of real, farm-to-table learning.
✨@neighbourhoodfarm_sa is truly an incredible initiative — a vibrant learning space for all ages and stages. Whether you pop in for a cup of coffee at their coffee shop, visit their farm stall to stock up on delicious organic produce, or book a school outing, we highly recommend paying them a visit 😍

At iThemba, reading aloud is more than an activity — it’s a gift we give our children every day.
Through the years, we’ve encouraged parents to read aloud at home, shared stories together at school, welcomed volunteers who generously give their time to read with our children, and nurtured a love for independent reading.
We are especially grateful for partners like @little_zebra_books , who help place books directly into the hands of our families — in their own home languages — so stories can live beyond the classroom walls.
