The Linens department started their fabric sale at ReUse MegaCenter. Front of the store. Small bin $5, large bin $10. Fill with whatever fabric strikes the fancy. This pricing system rewards people who can fold efficiently and fit more fabric per bin. That's a skill that finally has financial benefits.

Ithaca ReUse Center has air conditioners available in spring. That’s the best time to buy air conditioners because nobody else is panicking about heat yet. Come summer, air conditioners become precious commodities. Right now they’re just appliances sitting on shelves waiting for someone smart enough to plan ahead.

ReUse MegaCenter has synthetic, blend, and novelty yarn from one massive donation. Many duplicates mean someone can actually finish a project without running out of matching yarn halfway through. Someone bought enough yarn to complete things. Then didn't complete things. Now someone else can not complete the same things with matching colors.

ReUse MegaCenter is expanding and moving to Cayuga Shopping Center in June 2026. New name: Cayuga ReUse Center. More space means more used furniture, more donated items, more opportunities to buy things other people used to own. Ithaca ReUse Center at 214 Elmira Road is *not* moving but will have exciting changes. One store relocates and expands, one store stays and evolves. Both stores continue the mission of keeping reusable stuff in circulation. Check ithacareuse.org for updates.

Starting today, Ithaca ReUse Center and ReUse MegaCenter will be open for shopping until 8 PM every day! An 8 PM closing time means the stores are open for 70 hours a week. That is almost half of the total hours available in a week. The other half of the hours are reserved for sleep and for the objects in the store to discuss their previous owners in private.

Fabric Extravaganza Fundraiser at ReUse MegaCenter, starting on Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd, will have over 200 bolts of fabric for $4 per yard. That's fabric by the bolt, by the yard, in pieces, in scrap bags. Someone can buy enough fabric to make quilts for the next decade or just enough fabric to feel like quilting might happen someday. Both purchases are equally valid. There are also sewing machines and quilting resources for sale, which means someone can buy the fabric AND the machine to sew the fabric. That's either commitment or optimism. Possibly both. The sale benefits Community Quilting Center and Finger Lakes ReUse, so buying fabric helps two organizations simultaneously. Fabric has never been this philanthropic. The event runs 10am to 6pm on Saturday May 2nd and Sunday May 3rd at ReUse MegaCenter (2255 N. Triphammer Road). The sale continues through May, which means missing the kickoff weekend isn't fatal to fabric acquisition goals. The fabric will wait. Fabric is patient like that.

The Deconstruction Team and volunteers keep bringing salvaged materials into both ReUse locations. Someone's old house is now someone else's raw materials. Reclaimed oak paneling is at ReUse MegaCenter (2255 N. Triphammer Road) for anyone wanting a statement wall or just a wall that used to be someone else's wall. Also red oak flooring. Someone else's floor can become someone else's different floor. Floors are transferable like that. At Ithaca ReUse Center (214 Elmira Road), there are 3/4" oak boards, 2.25" width oak flooring, and chestnut door trim and jambs. "Salvaged" is just a fancy way of saying the wood is between jobs and waiting to become a house again instead of retiring in a landfill. This is a productive cycle where a tree becomes a doorway, then another doorway, because this lumber has a very strong work ethic and refuses to stay down.

Effective Friday, May 1st, ReUse's operating hours at its current locations—the Ithaca ReUse Center and the ReUse MegaCenter —will change. Shopping hours will be expanded to include 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily at both locations for the first time, with donation hours temporarily reduced from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday through Monday ONLY. Donations acceptance will be temporarily CLOSED on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at both locations. This change, effective Friday, 5/01/2026, will offer more convenient shopping hours and provide ReUse with the opportunity to distribute an increasing backlog of materials generated by this community's generosity.
