Winter is coming to ITER's Magnet Cold Test Facility ❄️ The first Toroidal Field coil from Japan is ready to be cooled down to 4K (-269 ºC), cocooned inside a massive cryostat. These temperatures, only found in deep space, will allow engineers to verify the coil's performance under ITER operating conditions. 👏An impressive facility and teamwork! Well done to our @iter_organization partners and the European teams contributing.

#Fusion may become one of #AI’s toughest real-world challenges. Unlike internet-scale AI systems trained on abundant digital data, fusion research works with data that is scarce, expensive to generate, fragmented across decades of legacy systems, and tied to highly dynamic physical processes. At the #ITER Public-Private Fusion Workshop, experts from ITER, NVIDIA, NTT Data Italy, and Gaia Lab discussed how AI is already helping with: ⚡ plasma simulation ⚡ predictive maintenance ⚡ digital twins ⚡ construction optimization ⚡ future real-time reactor control One striking idea: ITER is developing a fusion “world model” trained on decades of tokamak data to predict machine behavior before it happens. Fusion isn’t just another AI use case. It may help shape the next generation of AI itself. Read more /node/20687/how-fusion-teaching-ai-new-tricks-iter

It’s here! Vacuum Vessel Sector 3 has arrived at ITER. 🙌 After a long journey by sea and road, Europe’s fourth sector made it to the site. An exceptionally heavy load safely transported under the coordination of @daher_official 🚢 🚛 @fusion4energy worked with @ansaldoenergia , @wecnuclear , @waltertostospa and @iter_organization to manufacture the 500-tonne component. With eight other sectors, it will form the heart of the world’s largest fusion reactor. One left to go! #FusionEnergy #ITER #Industry #VacuumVessel #Logistics #HeavyTransport

The first 440 t vacuum vessel sector was successfully landed on its gravity support in the ITER tokamak. This first-of-a-kind operation means the load of VV sector #6 was “decoupled” from its temporary supports, the central column and bioshield wall and is now being fully supported from underneath. All nine sectors will eventually rest on gravity supports, with their weight transferred to the building by the concrete crown under the machine. #fusionenergy #ITER #ITERAssembly #tokamak #vacuumvessel

In the ITER control room, cooldown has been initiated this week on the magnet cold test facility. D-shaped toroidal field coil #07 is the first magnet to be tested. Already locked in the cryostat, it will reach the temperature of 4 Kelvin (-269 degrees Celsius) in ten days. Then performance tests can start. Stay tuned! #fusionenergy #ITER #magnets #superconducting

A house on wheels? No, it's the eighth of nine vacuum vessel sectors, this one manufactured by Europe, en route to ITER. It will arrive very early on Thursday, 7 May. The vacuum vessel is the double wall steel container that will house the fusion reaction. It provides a high-vacuum environment for the plasma and acts as the primary confinement barrier for radiation. When complete it will weigh more than 5,000 tons. #fusionenergy #ITER #vacuumvessel

At ITER headquarters, the global fusion community came together for the 3rd Public-Private Fusion Workshop under the theme “Fusion: A Joint Quest.” Director-General Pietro Barabaschi captured the moment perfectly: ➡️ “Too much cooperation slows you down. Too much competition makes you lose direction. You need both.” With private fusion investment reaching $10.5B and growing fast, the message is clear—fusion is moving from possibility to necessity. Leaders from industry and international organizations highlighted the urgency of scaling capabilities, mobilizing industry, and strengthening collaboration across sectors. From superconducting magnets to knowledge transfer, this week’s discussions are shaping the future of clean energy. #FusionEnergy #ITER #CleanEnergy #Innovation #FutureOfEnergy

Big step for fusion regulation On 14 April 2026, the French Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection approved the ITER Organization’s request to exclude the ITER vacuum vessel from pressure equipment rules. Why? Its design is driven by electromagnetic forces—not pressure, making fission-based standards a poor fit. A key move toward fusion-specific regulation that supports both safety and progress. #FusionEnergy #ITER

🎧 Ascolta ora l’episodio completo: Spotify: https://spotifycreators-web.app.link/e/twZ78nAvc2b YouTube: https://youtu.be/9tRozSVQExA?feature=shared

Four out of five! Europe’s Vacuum Vessel Sector 3 is ready for ITER. 👏 @fusion4energy in collaboration with @ansaldoenergia , @wecnuclear , @waltertostospa and @iter_organization completed the component this week. The sector will soon depart from the port of Ortona and travel by sea towards the #ITER site in Southern France. Manufacturing this 500-tonne stainless-steel titan has been an intensive test of skill and coordination, involving over 150 professionals from 15 companies. ✅ Despite its scale and pressing schedule, Europe delivered on time, and even went the extra mile. Read the sector’s story on the F4E website. Well done to our teams and partners!

Like a giant game of #Jenga—one wrong move isn’t an option. Because at this scale, even the slightest misalignment or uncontrolled movement could damage components weighing hundreds of tonnes. Each part has a different center of gravity, so without perfect balance and positioning, the entire lift could shift, collide, or strain the structure. That’s why the bracing tools for Sector Module #7 were critical—and why their precise removal marks such an important milestone in tokamak assembly. #iter #fusion
