I wrapped up this mural back in March, and it was so much fun! This is my biggest painting yet! Huge thanks to the friends who helped out along the way. I absolutely love the Alleycat and everyone who works there. It meant a lot to contribute to such an iconic part of Fort Collins.

2026 festival theme: “The children of People”
The concept for this poster series was developed with the help of Ellie(fourth grader) and Cy(fifth grader). I had the opportunity sit down and chat with them in their classroom and gain some perspective on what the world looks like through their eyes. During our hour together, we discussed their shared love of waffles, golden retrievers, and skateboarding, as well as their hopes and dreams for the future (Ellie: to be a marine biologist) (Cy: to own a skateboard/snowboard shop).
Our conversation took an interesting turn as they shared some of their observations of how the changing climate has affected their lives. This left me wondering what state the planet will be in when they grow up. How will wildfires affect ocean life and Ellie’s dream of being a marine biologist? Will snowboard shops being business when Cy is ready to open one of his own?
Once our discussion tapered out we spent our remaining time playing the illustration game exquisite corpse(Results are pictured on slide 5). The themes of our talk and the characters that we created together served as my inspiration when designing this poster series.
My dear friends worked so hard on this song. I’m so proud of them and all their hard work and feel lucky to have been a small part of their process.
