🔍 ISPRS Research Spotlight
How do we make point cloud registration research more robust and closer to real-world conditions?
PC2Model introduces a benchmark dataset for realistic point cloud-to-model registration, designed to support research in 3D vision, photogrammetry, robotics, and LiDAR applications.
The benchmark includes:
• simulated and real-world point cloud datasets
• realistic artefacts such as noise, occlusions, mixed pixels, and density variation
• ground truth transformations and standardized evaluation metrics
Designed for both classical and learning-based approaches, PC2Model provides an open resource for evaluating robust registration methods under realistic conditions.
The work is connected to the ISPRS Scientific Initiative 2025 led by Mehdi Maboudi and will be presented at the XXV ISPRS Congress 2026 in Toronto.

🌍 New ISPRS Scientific Initiatives 2025 outcome released
We are pleased to share an open-access dataset that was developed as part of the project:
“A Forecasted Surface Velocity Database for Cities of the Mediterranean Southern Coast to Assess Coastal Displacement Contribution to Shoreline Change by 2030”.
Led by Bahaa Mohamadi, with contributions from Tamer ElGharbawi, Kamel Hasani, Ali Younis, and Mohamed O. Abu Ghazala, this work provides new insights into coastal dynamics along the southern Mediterranean coast.
The database covers 27 coastal cities and provides a 15-year time series, combining observations from InSAR SBAS with deep learning forecasts using Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN).
It enables a better understanding of how subsidence and uplift contribute to shoreline change by 2030, supporting more accurate coastal risk assessments.
📂 Explore and download the dataset:
/10.57760/sciencedb.31439
We invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to use this resource to advance coastal resilience and geospatial science.
