Birthday in Brazil on a trip that I’ve been dreaming of forever and been planning over a year for. This country will see me again soon. Now I have to brush up on my Portuguese.

4 years ago I officially started a whole new chapter. I moved into my first apartment in New York City with 2 suitcases containing everything that I left Jamaica 6 months prior. In that apartment my room was so tiny if i extended both arms I touched both walls, there was no sunlight and I had damn near a million roommates (I’m being extra 🤣🤣 it was 4 of them). That same week, I also started an internship (that over the past years has turned into my current role) and a part time job on the weekends to make ends meet.
The past 4 years have been nothing but hard work, sacrifices, stress, anxiety, and even more sacrifices. That first year earned about $12,000 (so I was living in poverty essentially), worked 2 jobs and was juggling a fast paced masters program as well.
(I don’t believe in sob stories so this is the closest it will get)
Looking back my work ethic, foresight and resourcefulness has gotten me where I am today. However along the way I built a community of friends in New York that are worth their weight in gold. People that I can honestly count on in Rain, Snow or Sunshine (which is why I’m always outside doing something 🤣🤣🤣).
I’ve also fallen in love with this city that’s has given me a new definition of “home”. Now things are much better (obviously), I’m blessed to have an apartment that is my sanctuary away from the world; Friends that have my back as much as I have theirs and for the first time in forever there’s not much to complain about.
