Our Staff Development Seminar (or "Staff Dev") is one of the highlights of our year at ISL.
Every spring, ISLers from each of our offices come together for an exciting weekend of connection, learning, fun, and sharing new ideas. Staff Dev 2026 saw our highest attendance ever, and the jam-packed schedule provided plenty of opportunities to grow and connect.
We heard from some inspiring guest speakers, looked to the future of ISL with our senior leadership team, and attended engaging presentations and showcases from our peers. After, we enjoyed an evening of celebration with our teams over great food and entertainment.
Staff Dev highlights ISL's company culture in action, and we're looking forward to seeing you in 2027!

Join us on May 28th at 9 AM for an informative presentation on small community water systems from ISLer Everett Nemeth. In this session, he'll be exploring groundwater source development and municipal water-system upgrades completed in Hythe, Alberta, and sharing key lessons learned in the process.

ISL's updated Parental Leave Policy - which has been shaped by two years of employee voices, stories and shared experiences - was recognized at the ACEC‑BC Awards Gala on May 8, 2026.
Across the engineering industry, parental leave is where inequities often show up most clearly. We believe that by addressing this directly with a more compassionate approach - based in equity, consistency and inclusion - we're taking a step to help build a stronger industry for everyone.

ISL was an official Trail Maintenance Partner for this year's @squamish_enduro !
On a blistering 30-degree May 3rd, over 700 riders descended on three unique courses showcasing Squamish’s world-renowned trail network, and a few ISLers joined the mix.
Riders blazed through 35km of trails, 1300m of vertical climbing, and 850m of race stage descending to reach the finish, with ISLer Grant W. taking home 3rd place in the Male 45+ division.

🏃♂️💨 ISL hit the ground running at the Vancouver Sun Run!
Team members from our Burnaby, Langley, Squamish, and Victoria offices took part in Canada’s largest 10K race this past Sunday, joining over 57,000 participants across Vancouver.
We’re proud to share that ISL placed 11th out of 134 engineering teams 🙌 (up from 29th last year!)
Even better? Our top 8 runners improved their average time from 48:53 to 44:23 💥
An incredible showing from our team. Way to go, everyone!

📣 PROJECT FEATURE: Yukon Child Development Centre
ISL supported the transformation of a historic Whitehorse building into a modern, inclusive hub for the Yukon Child Development Centre. Originally constructed in 1961, the facility was reimagined to better serve children and families through early intervention and therapeutic programs.
Our team provided structural consulting services, including detailed assessments, site investigations, and targeted upgrades to meet current codes and accessibility standards - helping ensure a safe, resilient, and welcoming space for the community.
This project reflects the power of adaptive reuse, preserving local character while enhancing functionality to support the evolving needs of the North.
