Hello everyone! For those who don’t know me, I’m Isla, a transgender woman based in the UK and for the past few years I’ve been trying my best to save up for Gender Reassignment Surgery whilst keeping up with the rising costs of the hormones I need to take along with the blood tests and doctors’ appointments that are required alongside that. Despite giving up a life up country and moving back in with my parents, despite working multiple jobs, despite compromising various longterm career opportunities, keeping up with the huge cost of gender affirming healthcare is incredibly tricky. Together, we have raised over £5000 and I am unspeakably grateful to each and every one of you for this. I carry this gratitude with me every day and it motivates me to work as hard as I can to save up the money I need. Unfortunately, with decreased hours at work and currently no better alternatives, I need your help once again to raise funds necessary to keep up with my healthcare costs and save up for the surgery. When I wrote ‘The Boy’ not long after that court ruling in April, I was inspired by what I see as the prevailing attitude of our times: all sorts of different people coming together to face adversity and I think this group here are a wonderful representation of that; giving up their time, resources and skills to make the sort of film that can only be made with community spirit. Looking forward to our last day of shooting!
