#GiveNOLADay Early Giving is now open!
Help us build momentum by donating today. Our small but mighty ISLA team is on the frontlines of fighting for immigrant justice in the face of flagrant abuses of power by Trump and ICE. Each dollar of your donation will go toward:
1️⃣ The core of our work: representing people detained by ICE in the Gulf Coast under a universal representation model– we take any case, not just the ones that have the best chance of winning
2️⃣ Fighting back against prolonged and unlawful detentions through our new Habeas Project
3️⃣ Working to increase oversight and document due process violations in detained immigration courts through our volunteer-powered Court Watch Program
4️⃣ Building our capacity as a hub for immigration legal expertise– to our communities during immigration crackdowns like the recent Catahola Crunch, and as plaintiffs in impact litigation across the country
Show your support with a donation of any size! Scan the QR code to make a donation (link in our bio) and share with your family and friends.
We are grateful for y’all’s support! 💐

In New Orleans, immigrants are heroes. The community erected a monument to honor the immigrants who rebuilt the city after Hurricane Katrina. And today, New Orleanians are stepping up to defend their neighbors.
On World Heritage Day, or International Day For Monuments and Sites, we're sharing the story behind the city's two monuments to immigrants.

Saigon Sundays are coming 👀🔥
We’re bringing the flavors of Vietnam night markets to the Rusty Nail! 🍜🌿
May 24 + 31 & June 7 + 14 — Chef Anh Luu of Xanh is popping up with street food, specials, and a whole lot of vibe.
Hot nights, cold drinks, plastic stools, and a table full of flavor… just how we like it in New Orleans.
Plus, we’re giving back — a portion of proceeds will support local Vietnamese organizations ❤️
Stay tuned… this is just the beginning.
Today we celebrate the community that makes our work possible. In Louisiana, ISLA is on the frontlines of an uphill battle— with ICE detention expanding, due process violations in immigration courts, the near elimination of bond, and legislative attacks at the state and federal levels.
But we are not deterred. We’re expanding our programming with our Habeas Project to fight unlawful detention and our Court Watch program documenting due process violations.
This #GiveNOLADay and Cinco de Mayo, #ChingaLaMigra and make a donation of any size to defend immigrant communities in Louisiana!

About a month ago, my wife and I were laying in bed and daydreaming together about what life would look like in a different place. It’s nice to dream, but we are here and life looks like what we are living, which is beautiful. We both know we are lucky without having to say so out loud, but I do anyway. This moment is precious, and this place is sacred, and I don’t want to let it go by without acknowledging the gift. Maybe it will help me to hold on to the moment. A memory to return to, to mark this chapter of my life, or when someone asks me to think of a time I was truly happy.
This is the real magic of wine to me. To a lot of people I guess- wine folks are always talking about a “sense of place,” yes? But I don’t care much any more about this hill or that one, these soils or those. The power is in the people on the other end. A chapter of another person’s life, carefully transcribed and bottled, floated onto the ocean of time. A then and there opened in one’s own here and now.
And what a special occasion to meet the author of a story you love.

From its inception, ICE has been an agent of terror against our communities. Over the past year, we have seen it weaponized to its worst and most inhumane form yet: the number of children in detention has skyrocketed, deaths in detention were the highest in over two decades, sexual and physical abuse is widespread, and ICE has now been deployed into streets across the country and are murdering more people in broad daylight. This system is designed to harm and cannot be reformed, it must be abolished! #AbolishICE #CommunitiesNotCages #FreeThemAll
Yesterday, our Legal Director testified before the House Committee on Homeland Security during a field hearing organized by @congressmantroycarter and Ranking Member Bennie Thompson regarding immigration enforcement under this regime. It’s clear ICE must be abolished now!

Repost from @intrfthalliance .
Loving thy neighbor means treating all people with dignity and compassion, but ICE’s actions spread fear, cause harm, and traumatize communities.
We cannot look away.
As faithful Americans, @intrfthalliance is demanding that the federal government stop the attacks on our neighbors and calling on our political and religious leaders to join in solidarity against their cruelty.
