Danza de los Voladores
The exact origin of this ritual/dance is unknown,
Evidence for the ritual stretches back as far as the pre-Classic period according to ceramics found in Nayarit.
1800 BC – 250 AD

I took this photo in Tulum, Quintana Roo
Legend states that the Pyramid of the Magician was built overnight by a dwarf that was hatched from a turtle egg found in a cenote. The dwarf overthrew the existing ruler and became the new ruler of Uxmal. In reality, the pyramid was first built around 569A.D. It was built over five times. The last addition, the House of the Magician at the top, was added in 900 A.D.
I tend to believe the legend only because it’s a way better story.

Believed to be constructed somewhere between 1200 and 1450AD
The area was inhabited from the mid-3rd century BCE. Most of the architecture now visible was built between the 7th century and 11th centuries CE.
