#ISActionNetwork_Partner Today weโ€™re partnering with @isactionnetwork to educate people about preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species. . Did you know that recreational equipment like paddling gear, fishing equipment, and swimming toys are a leading way that aquatic invasive species like zebra mussels, whirling disease and invasive weeds and snails are spread? . Invasive species can have devastating impacts on aquatic ecosystems and can also lead to significant restrictions on recreational access to waterbodies. . Do your part to prevent their spread. Always Clean, Drain and Dry anything that touches the water โ€“ from your boats and paddles to your lake toys and hip waders. Gary can show you just how easy it is! . Also, to help you get out on the water this summer @ISactionnetwork is also giving away a PFD generously donated by @NRSweb . . To enter, make sure to follow @isactionnetwork , tag your boating or fishing buddy, and leave a comment below pledging to clean, drain and dry your gear!. . . #greatgramsofgary #cleandraindry #invasivespecies #paddling

Next week is Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week!๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿƒ The emerald ash borer (EAB) is a highly destructive invasive beetle that attacks and kills ash trees, causing significant ecological and economic damage. EAB (Agrilus planipennis) is a wood-boring insect native to China and eastern Asia. It was first detected in North America in 2002 and has since spread across much of the United States and Canada. EAB primarily targets ash trees. The larvae feed on the inner bark, disrupting the tree's nutrient flow and leading to its decline and eventual death. The adult beetles are about 7 to 8 mm long and have a distinctive, shiny, emerald-green color, while the larvae are creamy white. If you notice a suspicious tree or insect, report it at iNaturalist.org. #FAQfriday #EABweek #forestpests #dontmovefirewood #ashtrees

Happy Fun Fact Friday!๐Ÿ’ซ๐ŸŽ‰ Did you know dumping live bait can introduce invasive species like zebra mussels & rusty crayfish, which can disrupt local ecosystems? When you're out fishing this summer, remember to never dump your bait! Instead, dispose of any unused bait in the trash and avoid transferring live bait between lakes or water bodies. #invasivespecies #fishing #protectourwaters #anglers #funfactfriday

Happy May Day!๐Ÿชป๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒท We all love the flowers that come along with springtime, but did you know that not all spring blooms are native? Here are just a few flowering invasive species of concern: ๐ŸŒธ Sulfur cinquefoil ๐ŸŒธ Oxeye daisy ๐ŸŒธ Toadflax ๐ŸŒธ Saltcedar These invasive species can outcompete native species for food and resources, alter habitats, which can lead to significant environmental changes and loss of biodiversity. They can also impact agriculture, fisheries, and other industries reliant on native species, causing economic damage. #mayday #spring #flowers #invasivespecies #funfactfriday

Yesterday, we hosted our fourth-ever Aquatic Pet Rehoming Eventโœจ๐Ÿ  We are thrilled to report that we had a very successful event! We rehomed many animals, including goldfish and a white mystery snail. This would not have been possible without the support of the Montana Invasive Species Council, @afsmsustudent , @zoomontana , and all our other volunteers. Do you have a pet you can no longer care for? Don't let it loose! For the health of your pet, and the safety of our native wildlife, itโ€™s never OK to release animals. Pets are usually unable to find food or shelter in the wild. If it does survive, your pet could become an invasive species. Rehome your pets instead. Learn more about responsible pet ownership and keep an eye out for our next pet rehoming event at . #petrehoming #responsiblepetownership #dontletitloose #bozemanmt #gocats
