BID V \ INVITED ARTIST
ISA STEIN
Hair Work – A Heart on Snow, Asphalt, Sand, Air
In Hair Work, Isa Stein uses her body as a drawing tool, tracing the shape of a heart on various surfaces—snow, asphalt, sand, air—through a simple, performative gesture. Hair replaces the hand, suspending rational control and entrusting the construction of the image to intuitive movement.
The heart shape, recognizable and shared, repeats itself in changing contexts, each time adapting to the material that receives it. The ground becomes an active surface, capable of absorbing, interrupting, or dispersing the sign.
Performance, photography, and video coexist as traces of a temporary action, in which the gesture is not fixed but remains exposed to transformation. The work thus develops between presence and dissolution, allowing a direct relationship between body, environment, and sign to emerge.
