On a recent podcast taping for The Late Set, WRTI caught up with Irreversible Entanglements (@irreversibleentanglements ) at The Fabric Workshop and Museum co-presented by our friends at Ars Nova Workshop.
The museum was celebrating the final days of the exhibition The Living Temple: The World of Moki Cherry which included footage from a Swedish TV documentary profiling Don and Moki Cherry.

Four of the group’s five members — vocalist Camae Ayewa (aka Moor Mother), trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, saxophonist Keir Neuringer, and bassist Luke Stewart — joined Josh Jackson for a listening session and public discussion of Don Cherry’s 1972 album Organic Music Society, as a tie-in to the exhibition The Living Temple: The World of Moki Cherry.
At the event — co-presented by The Fabric Workshop and Museum and Ars Nova Workshop — the band also talked about Future Present Past, its knockout fifth release, and the imperative of speaking truth to power, now as ever.

Free jazz collective Irreversible Entanglements return with their fifth album, recorded in the legendary Van Gelder Studio for Impulse!
The band shared this statement about the record:
“The weight of a certain world can feel cruel and unusual. Another world uplifts. We form as five and transform into billions. Billions of us on this planet sharing this journey through existence—futures full of possibility and potential, the present with all its anxieties and uncertainties, pasts as wellsprings of ancestral wisdom and histories’ warnings.
This album is five standing on the shoulders of legions. The healers, the alchemists, the rebels, the mothers and fathers who have fought and weaved and invented new ways of being, seeing, and balancing the frequencies of this planet towards trans-dimensional liberation and universal understanding.
We assume our role in this music as messengers, continuing in the tradition’s long march along the arc of the universe. Freedom fighters telling us not to lose our heads amidst imposed chaos. It is our duty to vibrate higher, beyond the noise, above the hype, away from the novelty, over the walls, across the borders: to keep going.

Irreversible Entanglements’ second for Impulse! - recorded at the legendary van Gelder Studio, home of Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders.
The Brooklyn free jazz collective led by Moor Mother, mixing fiery spoken word with exploratory brass and propulsive percussion. Born out of a Musicians Against Police Brutality event, that spirit runs through every note.
Hope and resistance in equal measure. Recommended!
