Artist Highlight: Iro Kraija Karavia 💙
💙 Iro Kraija Karavia (
@iro0202____ ) (they/them) is an independent designer and artist based in Athens, Greece. Their work explores the spatiality of imaginary worlds, unspoken languages, mythical creatures, sports, games, and media. Sometimes marked by tragic irony, their work can be critically dark, sad, and even a bit arrogant, grounded in sociopolitical research focused on queer identities. Their practice spans both digital and physical representations, which remain deeply interconnected. As their main support their community, Iro Kraija Karavia is in a constant dialogue and solicitude towards and with fellow artists, creatives and friends. <3
💙For our show, they are presenting their work ‘text me back, i <3 u’
💙‘I once told a friend that I had no words to express how I feel about them. In response, I created my own language and alphabet as a means of expression. The letters that have been created are like my friends. They are creatures of liquid, they don’t have a fixed form or shape, they are constantly changing.’
💙text me back, i <3 u’ is a half-physical, half-digital installation that examines digital intimacy and the emotional loops within the very private realm of typed and untyped communication. Set within my dream enby coming-of-age room, ‘text me back, i <3 u’ speaks quietly about the urge for intimacy, the feeling of being in love without response, the act of sending love letters that receive no answers, and the internal sadness of loneliness.
