THE most common DM and email I get these days is, “I’m nervous about coming.” And that makes sense!! Because hello yes! Walking into a group of strangers can absolutely feel scary! But I want you to know if that’s you, feeling nervous, SO many other people you’ll be meeting are feeling nervous too. And when I (Alex 👋) created @irl.sd & @irl.hq , I had that constantly running through my head. How can we help create environments that make meeting new friends feel less scary? It’s a learning curve, for both you and me! I’ve done some trial and error and learned a lot from your guys’ feedback. But the goal remains the same. Create opportunities for connection in ways that feel laidback, easy, and safe. And you guys, each of you, have been a huge part of making that a success! Because one of the other most common pieces of feedback I get is “everyone is so friendly and I’m so glad I decided to come.” Thank you for being those kind of people, the kind of people that make others feels comfortable and welcomed. This mission to create friendship simply would not be possible without you. Thank you for being here. ❤️

You guys 🙈 lol—I realized this weekend I’ve never formally introduced myself to this group!! There’s a person behind @irl.sd & @irl.hq …and it’s me! Hello! 👋 I’m Alexandra Hunter (@msalexandrahunter ), but you can call me Alex! I founded IRL SD in July 2024 (a little unintentionally tbh lol). I made a post saying I had 4 tickets to the Padres game and anyone who wanted to come could join. That was our first “official” event and the rest is history! By day, I work in event marketing but my passion is social health and helping people find, build, and maintain meaningful community. And I LOVE networking people. It truly brings me so much joy to help connect you to other great people, so never hesitate to ask me to play wingwoman. It would be my honor!! I wasn’t always like this though. I’m an extrovert at heart but spent a long time as a bit of an isolationist (bc tbh it felt safest “there”). So I know how hard life can feel without people—and how life-giving it is when you have the right ones. Which is why I created this group, to help others find the community we all deep down need. I’ve lived in San Diego for 5 years and grew up in AZ & TX. I moved here not knowing a single soul… right at the start of C0vid. It was weird, it was lonely, but it was also a big inspiration for starting IRL SD, so that really came full circle well I guess.🥲 My little life motto is: Life is hard, but we shouldn’t have to do it alone.
