Happy Chinese new year!
A good to day to share with you the slow, intimate and quite process behind my piece( except for the sewing machine going hard and fast at times 😜 ) Its triangular prism, formed from two leaning fences with a mirror beneath, reveals an eight-faced polyhedron visible only from shifting perspectives, a symbolic reference to the eight main Hawaiian Islands. As viewers shift their position, the mirror opens multiple ways of seeing and experiencing the piece.
Through the layered mesh of metal and tulle, Tent transforms materials and perception alike, echoing marine life that inspires much of my work. Fabricated “brain corals” within the fence symbolize our capacity to link ideas, adapt, and construct spaces and homes attuned both to our surroundings and to what we are sensitive to. I wanted to explore presence, connection, and the hidden dimensions of the world and ourselves.
