About six months ago, I moved to the Netherlands after spending half a lifetime in Beijing. It has been an exciting new chapter, stepping into my role as Senior Curator at the beautiful
@nlfotomuseum , with inspiring projects already taking shape. At the same time, this transition has offered a unique moment for reflection: on photography, on China, and on myself. One personal and playful outcome of this all is Flowers in the Mirror, an upcoming exhibition curated by
@iris.sikking at
@fotomuseumdenhaag
Today, I’m delighted to start the pre-sale of the accompanying photobook, beautifully designed by
@robvanhoesel and published by
@eriskayconnection . If you would like to reserve a copy of 🌷 Flowers in the Mirror 🪞 , simply send me a DM, text, or email. Pre-orders are open until the end of March. You can collect your book at the exhibition opening on April 3 in The Hague, or, if you’re unable to attend, I’ll gladly mail it to you afterwards.

Flowers in the Mirror presents a kaleidoscopic overview of Lundgren’s work, bringing together new projects, earlier series, found footage, and photographs from his personal archive. Through the layering of images, unexpected connections and combinations emerge. The title refers to the Chinese proverb “As the moon in the water and flowers in the mirror,” a metaphor describing something that seems clear but ultimately remains elusive. Together with Lundgren’s working method, the title underscores a central question of this publication: What is the relationship between photography and reality, and how do we record a culture that remains partially intangible?
