Fragments of Life by Iris Box (1987) is a floating artwork inspired by a flock of starlings. It is filled with various objects that the artist found during her walks in nature, such as pieces of wood, bone, leaves, moss, slate stones and even hair. These objects are attached to thin wires, which gives the work a dreamy and fragile appearance. Box sees nature as a constant source of inspiration. She considers the way in which nature organizes and moves as a system that contrasts with the hierarchical structures of patriarchy and capitalism. Her work reflects her belief that feminism, combined with ecology, can bring about positive change in the world.
Fragments of Life van Iris Box (1987) is een kunstwerk dat lijkt te zweven en is geïnspireerd door een zwerm spreeuwen. Het hangt vol met verschillende objecten die de kunstenaar vond tijdens haar wandelingen in de natuur, zoals stukjes hout, bot, bladeren, mos, lei steentjes en zelfs haar. Deze voorwerpen zijn aan dunne draadjes bevestigd, wat een het werk een dromerige en fragiele uitstraling geeft. Box ziet de natuur als voortdurende bron van inspiratie. Ze beschouwt de manier waarop de natuur zich organiseert en beweegt als en systeem dat contrasteert met de hiërarchische structuren van patriarchaat en kapitalisme. Haar werk reflecteert haar overtuiging dat feminisme, gecombineerd met ecologie, een positieve verandering teweeg kan brengen in de wereld.
