The journey of faith is a continuous process of shedding the old and embracing the new, and perhaps no foundational truth is more liberating yet challenging than the call to ‘repent from dead works’ (Hebrews 6:1). Many of us walk through life, even a religious life, believing our actions—our church attendance, our charity, our moral conduct, even our most sincere prayers—can earn us favor with God or secure our salvation. We build monuments of self-righteousness, hoping our ‘good deeds’ will tip the scales. Yet, Scripture calls these efforts ‘dead works’: actions that, while possibly good in the eyes of the world, are spiritually lifeless and cannot cleanse our conscience or bridge the chasm created by sin.
True repentance here isn’t just about feeling sorry for sin; it’s a profound change of mind and direction
