Today, we launch the @SaveOurChildrensRights campaign. It’s been widely reported that the government is considering SEND reforms that could remove EHC plans and weaken children’s legal rights. We cannot let that happen. We’ve joined with @special_needs_jungle , @sosspecialeducationalneeds , SEND National Crisis, SEND Rights Alliance and @learningdisabilitytoday to defend the legal rights of children and young people with SEND. The law isn’t the problem - failure to follow it is. Read our open letter in @guardian today. Join the campaign. To the left of the image is a text box that says: “Children’s legal rights are under threat. Join the Save Our Children’s Rights campaign to protect the law for children and young people with SEND.”] #SaveOurChildrensRights #DefendSEND #SENDcrisis

The Government consultation on SEND reform closes TODAY 18 May, and it is vital that as many people as possible respond before the deadline. IPSEA has submitted its response to the consultation - our key ask is that children and young people’s enforceable legal rights to special educational provision are not replaced with unenforceable aspirations. You can find out more details about our response on our website in the 'latest news' section. Find out how you can respond by clicking 'Schools White Paper - what you need to know' via the link in our bio 🔗 [Image description: A blue background with white text written over the top. The government consultation on SEND reform closes on Monday 18 May, and it is vital that they hear from as many people as possible. Whether you are a parent, carer, young person, teacher, therapist, professional or member of the wider community - your voice matters. These proposals will affect children and young people in every family, every school and every classroom across the country. At IPSEA, we are calling for: 🔷 Enforceable legal rights to be protected 🔶 Support to remain personalised and based on an assessment of a child or young person’s individual needs 🔷 Real and effective accountability within the SEND system Find out how you can respond: .uk/respond-to-the-consultation/ [Reel description: a video of Madeleine Cassidy, Chief Executive of IPSEA, speaking at the National Demonstration at Parliament Square in London on 9 May 2026] #SEND #SENDcrisis #SEN #specialeducationalneedsanddisabilities

We have launched our new strategy 'Empowering families, protecting rights, securing education' for 2026 - 2030 which details how we will strengthen our work to ensure that children and young people with SEND get the education they are entitled to by law. Our strategy has launched at a critical time whereby the proposed reforms of the SEND system risk weakening the legal protections that children and young people rely on. You can read our full strategy on our website via the link in our bio 🔗 [Image description: An image of children running in a school playground with a blue overlay over the top. As part of the King’s Speech today, we note the reference to forthcoming legislation relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). At IPSEA, we are clear that any legislative changes must strengthen, and not weaken, the existing legal framework that protects children and families. Children and young people with SEND must continue to have enforceable rights to access provision that meets their individual needs. A new report from the @disabledchildrenspartnership and @kidscharityuk shows that only 28% of disabled young people say they are getting the right support at school or college. Every child and young person is legally entitled to an education which meets their individual needs. The report highlights the consequences when the right support is not delivered, including missing out on learning, friendships and a sense of belonging. At IPSEA, we will continue to work with families to understand the law and enforce accountability within the system. 📖 Read the full report, ‘How to Help Me Learn and Thrive’: .uk/young-peoples-report [Image description: A blue background with white writing over the top. IPSEA Chief Executive, Madeleine Cassidy, spoke powerfully at the @saveourchildrensrights #SaveSENDLegalRights national demonstration in Parliament Square on Saturday. For over 40 years, IPSEA has supported families in securing the right education for their children. The existing legal framework protecting children and young people with SEND is already strong and comprehensive - the problem is that it is not always properly implemented. Right now, families still have enforceable legal rights when support is not delivered. We cannot afford to lose them. We are urging everyone to respond to the consultation to protect the rights of children and young people with SEND. Find out how you can respond on .uk/.
