Earth Day Reflection
The past three years have been the warmest ever recorded, underscoring the growing urgency of climate change. While its impacts are global, they are not evenly distributed. In the High Arctic, particularly on Svalbard, some areas are warming up to seven times faster than the global average.
The consequences are profound. Glaciers are retreating, permafrost is thawing, and sea ice is shrinking. Both marine and terrestrial ecosystems are undergoing rapid change. Entire landscapes are being transformed, as Arctic species lose their habitats and southern species gradually move northward.
What is happening in the Arctic is more than a regional crisis but a warning to the world.

World Earth Day: An African Case on Nature-Based Solutions and Local knowledge
Nature-based solutions have been widely emphasized in global environmental discussions as effective approaches to addressing climate change. Increasingly, examples show that when institutions work closely with communities and draw on local knowledge, more practical and sustainable solutions can be achieved.
An example of this can be seen through the work of the Livingstone Museum. The museum collaborates with local farmers to understand the nature-based solutions they are using to adapt to climate change. Through interviews and engagement, farmers share which practices they have adopted, the challenges they face, and why certain solutions have not been implemented.
This exchange of knowledge has been incorporated into educational programs at the museum, and also shows real, community-driven responses to climate challenges. It demonstrates how small-scale actions by smallholder farmers contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability.
This case shows the importance of recognizing and supporting the knowledge and experiences of local farmers, whose contributions remain essential in building a more sustainable future.

Adapting energy infrastructure to heatwaves will be crucial to reduce the risk of future power outages, as their frequency is expected to grow substantially until 2050, according to the @ipcc ⚠️
📑 To address this issue, @edistribuzione launched a resilience plan to prepare the grid for more frequent extreme heat, following an exceptional heatwave in Sicily, which damaged cables and disrupted electricity supply.
🔍The Italian distribution system operator analysed the event, identifying how extreme conditions significantly impact the network.
💪 Supported by a regulatory incentive for resilience focused investments, the project aims to ensure reliable electricity supply during prolonged high temperature events and reduce vulnerability to future climate impacts.
⛈️ Strengthening grid resilience through long-term planning, this practice is one of the real-world cases RGI compiled that showcase how grid operators are climate-proofing European grids and keeping #ResilienceOnTheLine.

Here’s how over 8 billion of us including you and me are slowly warming the Earth 🌍
Day 15/30 🚀
Global temperatures are rising and human activity is a major driver.
Today, I explored how design can communicate data visually using contrast, color, and composition.
From 1994 to 2024, you’ll notice a clear shift in the basic infographic
from cool tones to neutral then to the warm tones
This isn’t random.
It reflects the steady increase in global temperature over time.
So, what’s causing this?
Human activities like burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) for transportation and industrial processes and even heating and cooling systems in residential buildings
These activities releases carbon dioxide (CO₂) into the atmosphere, trapping heat and gradually warming the planet.
That’s why the Earth in the Infographic becomes warmer in color and intensity as time progresses
a simple way to show a complex issue.
Challenges faced??
Getting the filters to blend naturally while still clearly communicating temperature change was tricky.
I had to balance realism with clarity, so the message didn’t get lost.
Lesson Learned
Good design doesn’t just look nice, it explains, informs, and makes people feel and do something.
At what point in the timeline did the temperature shift feel most noticeable to you?
