Day 2 of The IPAS Fund First Regional Learning Exchange.
Country Steering Committee and Sectoral Committee representatives shared the key issues, gaps, and challenges they’re facing on the ground.
Together, we explored strategies and solutions to move forward, while also gaining valuable perspectives from our financial partners.
We also showcased Indigenous products as part of the exchange to celebrate culture, creativity, and community livelihoods.
Indigenous-led means learning, listening, and growing—together.

Happy Holidays
TATABATUMOKU, an Indigenous-led organization, is working alongside the communities of Kg. Babagon and Kg. Tampasak, Penampang, to strengthen community-based eco-tourism and protect their traditional territories.
Through gotong royong (collective labor), the community is building two rest huts—one in each village—that will serve as:
✅ Visitor and information service centers
✅ Spaces for knowledge sharing and learning
✅ Hubs for community socio-economic activities
📣 And here’s a message from TATABATUMOKU that powerfully reflects the spirit of this work:
The project demonstrates that when spaces are created through collective ownership and cultural purpose, Indigenous women, youth, and intersectional groups naturally step into leadership, care roles, and benefit-sharing. Their participation has not only supported the completion of the huts but ensured that the vision of eco-tourism development remains grounded in community dignity, equity, and Indigenous identity.
This initiative proved that real development happens when everyone — regardless of age, gender, or status — has a seat at the table, a hand in the work, and a stake in the outcome.👏
This #WorldEnvironmentDay, we're highlighting the vital role of Indigenous Peoples in environmental well-being. Their traditional knowledge is key to sustainable living, yet their voices are often unheard.
As Jenifer Lasimbang, Executive Director of IPAS Fund, powerfully states:
"Warriors and chief for the recognition of Indigenous Peoples rights. We have missed our opportunity during the decolonization process, we have another chance to now! The decolonization process may have overlooked Indigenous self-determination, but now is the time to institutionalize Indigenous leadership in climate governance, finance, and policy frameworks. The Answer is Us!"
Asia is incredibly diverse, home to countless Indigenous communities. From rainforests to mountains, they're custodians of the planet's most biodiverse ecosystems. Supporting their rights and self-determination isn't just about justice; it's a crucial investment in a sustainable future for everyone.
Let's amplify Indigenous voices and advocate for their rightful place in environmental solutions.
"The Answer is Us!"
Today, the IPAS Fund, together with the Nusantara Fund, shared information at the Asia Land Forum in Jakarta, Indonesia, about an initiative for a direct funding mechanism to support Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. The plenary session discussed how this new mechanism in Asia can contribute to the ongoing movements and struggles of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities related to land and food sovereignty.
