Everybody help us welcome Shawndae Lawrence to IP3 as your new Programs Coordiantor!
Shawndae Lawrence joins the IP3 staff from Oklahoma’s Indian Territory. Raised in the small rural town of Anadarko, her background in tribal community started at a very young age. Surrounded by tribal members of the Kiowa, Apache, Comanche, Wichita, Caddo and Delaware tribes, has allowed her to observe abuses of the U.S. government upon the Anadarko Basin. Its rich oil deposits contributed to the suppression of these long forgotten communities.
Born in Washington state into the Kalispel and Kootenai communities has kept her connected to the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, Canada over the years. She continues to reconnect with her relatives on yearly visits to their annual celebrations.
Education from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, became a catalyst for Shawndae as she absorbed the teachings of Stephen Wall and Steve Fadden. Art history played a huge role in aligning the traumas and displacement of all tribal nations on Turtle Island. She soon followed the advice of professor Fadden after college and visited the Indigenous communities of Mexico and Central America.
Her work in preservation of all Indigenous communities remains a top priority today as she continues to travel and connect with different tribal nations. Her most recent trip took her to Nova Scotia during the fall medicine harvest of the Mikmaq Nation.
Resistance work within her community on the KCA (Kiowa Comanche Apache) lands created an Indigenous Femme-led coalition of tribal and non-tribal members known as Westwin Resistance. The coalition was successful in preventing the first full sized critical minerals refinery from illegally constructing on agricultural farmland.
Shawndae is excited to start this new journey as the Programs Coordinator for IP3.

IP3 is grateful to have spent time in Kiowa Comanche Apache Territory Oklahoma last week, and for the good work of Honor The Earth and Westwin Resistance. Participants convened for the first ever No Green Colonialism School, giving them the political and strategic tools they need to fight Green Colonialism in their communities.
Participants built shared narratives, gained practical tools to resist Green Colonialism, and left empowered to pursue Landback and Indigenous Sovereignty as true solutions.
Thank you to our friends at Honor The Earth and Westwin Resistance for your beautiful work, and for inviting us to your homelands for this powerful experience. For more information on No Green Colonialism School, Honor The Earth, and Westwin Resistance, please find and follow them on socials. 🙏🏽✊🏽🌱🌊
