Traveling isn’t always pure fun.
Meet Jonas & Céline @adie_merci , our Contributors of the Month. Traveling in their Land Rover Defender from South Africa back to Switzerland, they recently had to make a tough call — shipping their vehicle from Jeddah to Mersin due to rising tensions in the region.
What followed wasn’t easy. At the port in Mersin, they faced poor communication, damage to their vehicle, a break-in, and even attempted bribery.
And still — they took the time to share their experience on iOverlander.
Sharing insights like this helps others head into similar situations better prepared and with a clearer idea of what to expect.
You can follow their journey at @adie_merci
As a thank-you for their contribution, they received a free 1-year iOverlander Unlimited subscription.

Meet Clark, our Contributor of the Month for April.
Together with his partner — both scientists — and their dog Arya, they’re traveling in a self-converted camper van on a journey toward Argentina. Along the way, they share how climate change and other science stories show up in the places they visit, connecting global topics with real-world experiences on the road.

This month’s Contributor of the Month is @majarecka — and we’re very happy to share her story.
She told us she was amazed by Oman’s landscapes and the freedom to camp almost wherever your soul feels drawn to, and she wanted to share that feeling with others. Maja is a ceramic artist and photographer who feels most at home outdoors, following quiet roads and places where nature sets the rhythm. Based in Iceland, she explores the island in her 1987 Suzuki Samurai in search of beautiful campsites, hot springs, and journeys where the road itself is the destination. She’s also the co-founder of @campsire , a project about campsite life in Iceland, including F-roads, hikes, hot springs, and more. As a thank-you for her contributions, she receives a free 1-year iOverlander Unlimited subscription.

We finally fixed the maps. For real this time. We've added more details at lower zooms, more roads, road labels and city names. Test it out, tell us what you think! (This change only applies to online maps, new offline maps coming soon!)

She did it. Now it’s our turn.
Hannah Cox just ran 100 marathons in 100 days, across India. She did it to prove that although we’re all a bit ordinary and imperfect, we can do extraordinary things. She also did it to raise £1 Million for four charities that make the world a better place.
iOverlander just pony’d up. Join us! projectsaltrun.com

This month, we’re happy to shine a light on one of the people helping keep the iOverlander database accurate and reliable every day — our moderator Dave.
Dave has been part of the iOverlander moderation team since 2023 and is currently travelling through Mexico with his partner, Theresa.
Together, they travel as @aviatorsoverland on Instagram and Facebook — and yes, they really are pilots.
Dave and Theresa have explored large parts of Canada and the United States by plane, including trips all the way up into the high Arctic. More recently, they’ve been travelling by road in their 2004 Mercedes Sprinter van, as well as renting vans to explore Iceland and Norway. Right now, they’re backpacking through Mexico without a vehicle.
When they’re home in Vancouver, Canada, Dave and Theresa also volunteer with Search & Rescue — helping people in real life, just as Dave helps travellers through iOverlander behind the scenes.
Thank you, Dave, for all the time, care and consistency you bring to moderating iOverlander. We’re very lucky to have you on the team.

Still not done with January… here’s Contributor of the Month number three!
This contributor prefers to stay anonymous, but their update made a big difference and is a perfect example of our new Road Reports category.
In Liberia, on the road from Greenville to Harper, heavy rain turned the route into deep mud holes where even trucks and 4x4s get stuck for days. After hours to drive just one kilometer, our contributor wisely turned back and chose the safer route via Zwedru.
Real-time road info like this can save travelers serious trouble — and sometimes even their vehicle.

January gave us so many great contributions that we’re featuring more than one Contributor of the Month — and here’s our second one.
This time we’re highlighting Samuel from Canada, who explored Uganda for one month with his girlfriend Julie-Pier in a rented 4x4 with a rooftop tent — driving over 4,000 km across the country.
This standout contribution: Wycliff’s Eco Lodge in Uganda is a small, eco-friendly place run by a kind local host. Camping is possible, rooms are affordable, food is fresh and local — and 50% of the income supports a community project helping children, elderly people, and vulnerable families.
Thanks to Samuel and Julie-Pier for sharing a place that truly gives back.
As a thank-you, they received a free 1-year Unlimited upgrade.

Every month, we honor travelers who make iOverlander better for everyone. This time, our spotlight goes to someone who has spent more than 10 years exploring the world by campervan with his wife — from the bustling streets of Japan’s megacities to the remote wilderness of Tierra del Fuego.
iOverlander has been one of their go-to tools for finding great camping spots along the way, and we’re excited to recognize his very valuable contributions. As a thank-you, he has been awarded a free 1-year Unlimited upgrade.
Gallaecian, we’re grateful to have you with us — and we can’t wait to see where your travels take you next.
And one more thing: in January, we had so many great contributions that there will be more than one Contributor of the Month — so stay tuned!
