… WHASSSSAAAT?! 5” X 5” @goldenpaints on canvas I always enjoyed watching my dogs and the Poochland Clan using their ears. The way they move expresses so much of the way they’re feeling. Some facts I dug up - you may know them: Puppies are born deaf - I did not know this! Dogs have over a dozen muscles in their ears - Amazing. . I guess this is why some pooch’s lugs flap around sounds like a windmill in a storm. Dogs can filter out certain sounds - Like my pooch used to sleep through jam sessions with acoustic guitars at the house but as soon as packet of crisps were rustled he’d be up with his ears saying “GIMME SOME!”. I’ve enclosed some of the loose drawings I warmed up with to get a feel for the composition and also my palette ‘swab’ for all the colour tests. I trust all’s well with you folks. When I was about six years old there was often an English Bull Terrier I’d see when holding my Mam’s hand whilst trekking into Bridgend town. I remember asking her what was wrong with the dog as I couldn’t get over the features the English Bull Terrier displayed. “That’s how they look, IOL! Funny nose they’ve got, isn’t it?!!!” said Mam. My brother was ridiculously allergic to them to the point his eyes would dramatically puff up and he’d need his asthma pump to sort him out. (No, I haven’t got over having to give back the rescue dog we had when I was seven due to the aforementioned affliction. No dramas, bro. 😉). Dogs were meant to look like Scooby Doo & Scrappy or Gnasher. A few years later I became pals with an absolutely lovely English Bull Terrier and I love them to this day. Fabulously warm hearted and sweet …and a bit bonkers. My friends know I’m a huge dog fan and their dogs are my pals too. Having another dog is off the cards for a bit but until then I’m more than happy to love my pals: Ned, Dude, Cyril, Buddy, DWTSi, Jeanie, Gertie, Patch, Sprout, Ebony, Smtch, Arthur, Watson, Purdie, Sam, Geddy, Jess, Baxter, Franki, Figs, Brando,Lola, Twm, Mikey, Lottie, Oscar, Meg, Giz to name just some out of the Penybont Crew. Anyone selling/can suggest somewhere to get a new lens for my Nikon D60?! I was carrying it down the stairs, slipped, slid down on my arse and knackered the lens. Rock Roll 15” X 15” Polymer & pigment by @goldenpaints on canvas. • To have or to have not a tattoo. The reason I don’t (currently) have a tattoo is down to fact my pal Gmahn turned up to school when we were 13 1/2 years old with a tattoo on his right bicep of a Jaguar 🐆 with a dagger going through its’ head with blood spurting everywhere. In a time when Davymahn’s Grandpapi Pete, who had been in the Navy during the Second World War, was the only dude who had one (give or take the boys in Newbridge Fields who’d turn up and throw knives between each other’s legs as I’d pedal past on my BMX) - it was the mark of seriousness. It still is and I do admire the tattooists I’ve met and the tattoos I’ve seen. The idea of something permanent on your body in an impermanent life is interesting. I’m one of the 2% not to have one. Maybe I will. I don’t know yet. However the tattoo and rock n roll, punk, rock is synonymous. Given that it’s amazing I don’t have one yet. As a culture I understand it. Its heritage through time in Japan, Maori, Egypt, Samoa, Berber, San Yak, Aztec and Bridgend is another point to discuss but the idea of ink in skin as is on cave walls and paper and canvas is fascinating. Anyway…where was I?! Here’s a new one. Guess what key the Minor 7th is in and I’ll send you a drawing. Also I include a crop of my paint ‘swab’ which I test my mixes before committing the colour and marks to canfas. I find the sound of their wings as they land and take off incredibly beautiful. Their ‘coos’ often take on a musical tone too, very much a Synaesthesia experience for me as I paint the gorgeous greens and purples around the ‘neck blend’. Enjoy the sunshine Wales & UK.
