The battle is almost here…
This Saturday is the musical showdown of the year! 🚢✨
Last week, our fearless bandleaders @dannyjonokuchi and @eyal_vilner_big_band and producer @patricksoluri met on the flight deck of the Intrepid to survey the battlefield. The horns are polished, the arrangements are tight, and the energy is like a cannon ready to explode.
These two powerhouse big bands go head-to-head to see who can make the Hudson swing the hardest. 🌊🎷 • When: Saturday, May 23rd @ 7:00 PM • Where: The Intrepid Museum (Flight Deck) • The Vibe: Two elite big bands, world-class lindy hoppers, and a 1940s vintage atmosphere under the NYC stars.
⚠️ TICKET UPDATE: We are in the “Final Call” phase! Tickets are disappearing by the hour. If you’ve been waiting to secure your spot on the deck, now is the time. Don’t be the one watching the clips from home—be the one on the dance floor!

Meet the MiG-17, a fast and agile fighter jet flown by North Vietnamese forces, and one of the U.S. military’s toughest adversaries in the Vietnam War.
At the Intrepid Museum, you can see the MiG-17 and an A-1 Skyraider. During the Vietnam War, an Intrepid crew member flying the Skyraider, which is not designed for dogfighting, went head-to-head with a MiG-17 in combat and pulled off an impressive and rare victory!
Watching Top Gun on an aircraft carrier feels a little unfair to every other movie night.
The Intrepid Museum’s free Summer Movie Series is returning this year, turning the aircraft carrier’s flight deck into one of NYC’s coolest outdoor movie setups.
This year’s lineup includes Top Gun on May 22, followed by Independence Day, National Treasure, and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West throughout the summer. The series is also part of celebrations tied to America’s 250th birthday.
Admission is completely free and first come, first served, so arriving early is probably a very good life decision. Doors open at 6 p.m., movies begin at sunset, and seating is limited.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks, though concessions will also be available onsite.
By the way, we have a weekly newsletter rounding up what’s worth doing and knowing about in NYC. One newsletter. Once a week. Link in bio.

After repairs or upgrades, aircraft carrier crews test their catapults. They fire "dead loads," heavy vehicles that simulate the weight of different aircraft.
This photograph captures a dead load test on Intrepid in 1965, during an overhaul at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. According to a handwritten note on the back, "These things went over halfway across the East River."
✨ A night beyond your wildest dreams is coming to NYC.
Imagine this: The sun is dipping below the Manhattan skyline, painting the sky in hues of gold and violet. You’re standing on the flight deck of a legendary aircraft carrier, surrounded by history and the sound of two massive big bands tuning their horns.
As the first note hits, the deck comes alive. You aren’t just at a dance—you’re in another era.
INTREPID: Battle of the Big Bands is more than an event; it’s a living, breathing celebration of music, movement, and the spirit of the Swing Era and the Big Apple. Whether you’re a seasoned Lindy Hopper swinging under the stars or a vintage enthusiast soaking in the glamour with a drink in hand, there is nothing else like this in the world: • 360-degree views of the NYC skyline from the middle of the river. • Non-stop, high-octane swing from two of the best Big Bands in the business. • A community of dancers, history buffs, and fashionistas coming together for one unforgettable night.
This is the night you’ll be talking about all summer, and for years afterwards. But fair warning: the flight deck has a capacity, and we are nearing it! May 15 is last day for discounted tickets, and they’re disappearing fast.
