For more than three years Windfall has been undergoing a full refit in Almere. Years of rebuilding, learning, fixing and preparing the boat for what’s ahead. ⚓ And now the moment is finally getting closer that Windfall will return to the sea. For the first time I’m sharing publicly what this project has been building towards all these years. We’re heading north. ❄️ The plan is to sail into the Arctic, find a safe place to winter and freeze in with the boat. After the winter the goal is to continue west and attempt the Northwest Passage. There is still plenty of work to do in Almere, but the journey north is getting closer. 🧭 #IntoTheArctic #Windfall #Arctic #Overwintering #NorthwestPassage Link in bio. Music credits: @thebandkomodo

Finally, the word is out and the biggest project of my life starts now 🌊‼️ At the end of this year, I will attempt the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by kitesurf, as a solo rider. 3,000 nautical miles (=5,000 kilometers) From the Canary Islands, via Cape Verde to the Caribbean. Powered only by the wind No engine, no shortcuts. Just me, my kite and the ocean. A sailing boat will follow, strictly for safety and to allow me a few hours of sleep during the night ✨ Follow the journey. Limits are only invitations. More info — link in bio. This is the route: From Europe to the Caribbean 🏝️ I’ll follow the trade winds for weeks, maybe months. Adapting to whatever the ocean gives. Some days will go well, others won’t. An entire ocean crossing, step by step. Every kilometer has to be earned and will be officially tracked. Follow @koendarras to see how this unfolds 🌊 More updates coming soon.

I’ve dreamed of crossing an ocean for as long as I can remember. Now it’s time to do it 🤟 I’ve been thinking about this project for years. On January 3, 2027, it officially begins. It might still seem far away, but for the team and myself, it’s already very close. Behind the scenes, we’re working hard to make this happen. Step by step, everything is coming together and I really want to take you along in that journey✨ A 5,000 km crossing, from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean. 8 to 12 hours on the water. Every single day, 100 to 150 km… again and again. What an adventure and I’m realy looking forward to it. Some days will go well, others won’t. Follow @koendarras for more updates about the crossing Website Atlantic Crossing by Kitesurf 🌊 > Link in bio This is only the beginning 😳

Thinking of doing an RYA or other formal course before buying a boat, crossing an ocean, or joining an expedition? Certificates are great for confidence and can open doors, but at the end of the day, it’s just a piece of paper. What actually gets you closer to living an ocean-minded lifestyle, whether you’re crewing, skippering, or mile-building, is: 🌱Time at sea 🌱Learning from different people who LIVE it. 🌱Teamwork and leadership 🌱Real navigation and watchkeeping 🌱Problem-solving when things don’t go to plan 🌱Connections and Networking like-minded sailors On our upcoming Canary Islands Skillbuild expedition, where we sail on the Atlantic Ocean navigating between the wilder Canary Islands learning happens every day. You’ll LIVE the lifestyle: steering under the stars, sharing watches, practicing seamanship, and growing as a crew. Skills are built by doing, not just by passing a test. With a selected bunch of ocean lifestyle designers 💙 A certificate may boosts confidence. But the real goal? It’s a life of freedom, nature connection, and an ocean family to share it with. Before investing in a serie of skipper trainings, why not test-drive the lifestyle on a real adventure? AND get trained in the process 🌱 It can be wild out there! And it’s not for everybody. Join the ocean nomads crew, and you’ll gain practical skills, mentorship, stories worth telling, and the confidence to set course for whatever’s next, whether that’s ocean crossings, boat ownership, or becoming a skipper yourself. Certificates may give comfort, but sea time gives competence, deep connections and memorable moments for life, and isn’t that what it’s all about? Comment 👉 “canary” and Bob our autopilot sends you a link with all the info about our upcoming trip March 21-28 We have 1 spot left! 🎥 From last years ocean adventure sailing Canary Islands to Cape Verde

Throwback to the Atlantic 🌊⛵ 25 knots of wind somewhere between Tenerife and Cabo Verde, reefing the main while the boat powers through the waves. Moments like this remind me why I love being out here — raw ocean, strong wind, and a good crew. This crossing was organized by Ocean Nomads, bringing together sailors and ocean lovers for an unforgettable Atlantic adventure. Salt on the deck, wind in the sails, and miles of open ocean ahead. #Throwback #AtlanticCrossing #SailingLife #OceanNomads #Reefing OceanAdventure

A small moment I wanted to share 🙏🏻 Over the past 24 hours a number of local and national newspapers, television and radio stations picked up the story of the project. Always a bit surreal to see something that mostly lived in training sessions, notebooks and conversations suddenly appear in print. Grateful for the interest and for the journalists who took the time to tell the story🫶💕 And of course… this is only the beginning. Behind the scenes the real work continues Thx: @arnefranck @radio2.vrt @vrtnws @aaron.verhoeven @j.sabbe @focuswtv @katebaert Partners: @weareclubnorth @northkiteboarding @mysticboarding @intotheunknown.now @windy_forecast @oceannomads.community @kinetorhout @inside_out_coaching__ @levelupsportcoach @kitesurfing_belgium @club_north_by_icarus @w.w.s.v
