111 Generative Poems One of my favorite objects that I made during my degree project. The publication features 111 poems that were randomly generated by code, based on a collection of 300+ advertising slogans. Drop me a dm if you’d like a pdf of the book! Getting predictions from this little thing has been making my days a bit less awful for quite some time now. 125х175 mm Printed on Olin Rough High White 100gsm Cover 300gsm Typeset in Arial Bold

Oof, if you don’t post it, it doesn’t exist or whatever. So YAY it’s about time to share all the news! Last winter, Feb 2024, I launched my Poster Workshop at Britanka 🎉 Even though it’s my 7th teaching year (wow😵‍💫), this is a special milestone for me for two reasons: posters are my biggest passion, and Britanka is the place where I made my very first one.
So being able to share my approach, to experiment, and to pass on my love for this medium feels quite sentimental and like a real gift. Now this two-week long workshop runs twice a year, we have to book the dates six months in advance, and honestly, it’s become my favorite time of the year :) Alongside the standalone course, together with Dima @dimakrasnov and Misha @schettler , we’ve also brought the Poster Workshop into the Graphic Design program, where I get to experiment as a part of the academic year. Huge thanks to the @bhsad team for the trust, and ofc to the amazing students! If you’ve ever goofed around (and, of course, worked hard!) with me during the workshop — raise your hand in the comments 🫵🏻🙋🏻 I will soon share some of the most bizarre posters we’ve made, stay tuned!

Satori (2023) A sudden enlightenment and a state of consciousness attained by intuitive illumination representing the spiritual goal. Not exactly Chinese or Hong Kong-related term yet this is what l was referred to when describing my experience staying in the city. And, as some of my friends are enjoying HK right this moment, I’m left to bathe in some sweet nostalgia:) I am working on a project that I am hoping to share within the next few months, but in the meantime I think it’s good to summarize my 2023 adventures and start 2024 with this set of shots. This visit was one of the most accidentally transformative experiences that I’ve had which undoubtedly have influenced both my vision and visual language. Cheers to 2024, let’s see what you’ve got 〰️

Thank you and bye-bye, 2023! Here are some of the places that I was happy to speak at this year, with no particular order: 1. Industry Talk for students of BHSAD 2. Had a great chat about Ai with Lisa in her preparation for London Creative Festival 3. Had a personal open talk for 100 people at British Higher School of Art and Design about design education, jobs, and my practice and met lots of lovely people 4-5. Had my first solo exhibitions and tours for ‘False Floor’ and ‘False Floor. Nightwalk’ 6. Did a lecture for NPOs for SS and BBE on how to brief designers 7. Talked about the launch of Art Direction in Branding course 8. Told students of European Gymnasium all about different shapes and form of graphic design pathway 9. Spoke about Art & Science in Creative Industries and False Floor at RCW panel 10. Did a lecture for BA applicants where I talked about graduation year and a bit about my FMP ‘It’s About Time’ And last but not least: was invited to be a part of the ADCR Jury team, lots of BBE viewings and graduation meetings, and a few more open talks and workshops that I can’t find any pics from for the life of me. THANK YOU thank you thank you 🤍🫂 Honored and excited to be of help. Hoping to continue sharing my experiences and (hopefully x2) helping designers grow P.s. Promise to post my PROJECTS more next year:)

And that's it! A massive thank you to everyone who came to look at False Floor over the last couple of weeks. A first solo exhibition is an experience to never forget, and that's all thanks to your overwhelming support and generous share of emotions, opinions, and discussions. So Thanks to every single one of You from the bottom of my heart ♥️ P.s Fun fact that I am most proud of: mounting the entire exhibition myself (thanks to Serezha for his help with oracles), hammering 300+ nails into the walls, and putting on each piece with my own hands was no joke! It also created an almost funny contrast how such personal imagery made in such a nonhuman way was mounted and exhibited with utmost care. Okay, that’s all! See you soon with more posters🤍 P.p.s. The photographs are going to be sold at Cube.Moscow online store, so take a peek next week if you want to grab one or a couple of those. Exhibition (and me cheesin) documentation: thanks to Vladimir Os @vl_os_ , video by smooth (and wonderful) operator Nastya @goldenkarp 🤍

A camera flash is a physical object that emits a burst of light, which reflects off an object, making it appear brighter in the resulting photograph. In False Floor project, however, there is no physical camera, flash, or object to reflect light from. Chapter 2 of the False Floor takes visitors on a night walk through a forest of ficus trees, known for their unique and extremely complex root system, which extends above the ground. The primary objective of this chapter is to almost obsessively explore the representation of complex natural systems through an artificial entity, to delve into the realm of light and its connotations when presenting objects, and how AI comprehends and understands light in the absence of physical elements. 3/4 Exhibition documentation: thanks to Vladimir Os @vl_os_

The photographs lack contrast in their placement, orientation, size and medium. Printed on glossy paper, 18 by 13 cm, they imitate the appearance of vintage photographs found in old photo albums. The mounting of these images is executed with mathematical precision, leaving no room for human intervention. The uniform spacing between each photograph contributes to the sensation of an obsessive ‘soulless’ calculated arrangement. From a specific angle, the room transforms into a microchip-like environment, intensifying the eerie atmosphere, with no contrast for the human eye to rest. This intentional manipulation seeks to evoke an uncanny feeling, emphasizing the absence of individual significance, personal value, or human essence in these images. Side note: I am probably most proud of doing all the mounting myself (thanks to Serezha for his help with oracles), hammering 300+ nails into walls, and putting up each piece with my own hands. It creates an almost funny contrast how such personal imagery made in such an inhuman way is finally mounted and exhibited with utmost care. 2/4 Exhibition documentation: thanks to Vladimir Os @vl_os_

So… that happened. My first solo art exhibition is live! Thank you for the love🤍 1/4 False Floor exhibition May 28th — June 10th Tverskaya, 3 @cube_moscow “…Katya Slobodskaia uses AI photography to explore the False Floor of the Uncanny Valley, creating images that are both beautiful and unsettling. The hyper-realistic nondramatic depictions of nature that remind us of warm summer memories at ‘granny’s country house’ challenge our perceptions of reality and question the role of technology in shaping our understanding of the world. By simulating the look of film photography and using imperfect and unpolished shots, she aims to create a nostalgic and dreamlike atmosphere, while also exposing the limitations of AI and the underlying human biases that shape its output. False Floor is an invitation to reflect on the relationship between humans and machines, and the implications of AI technology for the future of art and visual culture. Through the lens of AI photography, Katya hopes to spark a conversation about the boundaries of creativity and the meaning of authenticity in an age of digital reproduction.” Exhibition documentation: thanks to Vladimir Os @vl_os_
