If you work in the live performance space -- whether that's theatre, circus, dance, musicals, etc. -- and you've been interested in upskilling and adding intimacy choreography to your work, now is the time to do it! Applications for our Intimacy Choreography for Live Performance (ICLP) program are closing in just a few days and this is your last chance to start training to be an intimacy choreographer with IPA this year.
Since completing their training just a few months ago, students in last year's ICLP Class of 2024 have already:
✨Worked as the intimacy director/choreographer for local theatres in the US and the UK
🎼Lead workshops at several national European opera houses
🎭Assisted as the intimacy director on a major regional stage in Canada
💫Continued to expand consent-forward practices in their own dance communities
There are still MANY frontiers in the live performance space where intimacy work is completely brand new and is waiting for folks to introduce it. If you are excited by the prospect of helping to found and shape the evolution of a field, then now’s the time to get involved.
Our ICLP program consists of 15 weeks of online classes once a week for four hours each and culminates in a five day in-person choreography workshop. This year the workshop will be held in Mexico City!
More information about the program and applications for the training can be found on the IPA website. Click the link in our bio to learn more.

What a journey our five day intimacy coordination workshop in Glasgow, Scotland turned out to be. Things seemed to go wrong at every turn and yet it was perfect in its imperfection. An excellent taste of exactly what to expect on a film set--you make plans so the universe can laugh at them and then you scramble to adjust. Glasgow threw us all sorts of curve balls (including three venue changes in five days!), but it also gave us the opportunity to experience community together in a deep and meaningful way -- to ask for support and receive it when it was needed, to cry together, to laugh so much and so loud we nearly lost our voices.
This workshop was an initiation. Not just into the world of intimacy coordination, but into a deeper, more authentic version of ourselves. An invitation to show up more fully and more boldly in all aspects of our lives. I am so proud of the work that was done both in the classroom/rehearsal room and outside of it during the long dinners and late night chats. Forever friendships were forged, memories were made, and Glasgow will never be forgotten.
XO,

People with disabilities experience the same romantic and sexual desires as people without disabilities, yet until recently, mainstream media has largely ignored, misrepresented, or made fun of those sexual desires. Since much of the general population is only exposed to disabled people through film and television, how can we, as industry professionals working to create their stories, tell them with nuance, insight, and respect? This course seeks to examine the ways in which film and television perpetuate stereotypes and what we can do as industry professionals to combat those stereotypes.
During this workshop we will:
*Trace the history and impact of disability representation in film and media
*Understand the nuances and intersections within the disability community
*Explore systemic challenges and inequalities
*Establish best practices for working with performers with disabilities on set
*Learn more about disability justice and the fight for disability rights
Workshop is on May 24th from 10am to 11:30am PT and will be taught by Emily Goodson and Sawyer VanVactor-Lee. Tickets are $49 (reduced price tickets are available for BIPOC and/or disabled participants with financial need and can be requested via email to [email protected]).
Tickets available on the IPA website.

THE BODY IS THE SUBCONSCIOUS.
Last week this fantastic group of people got to spend five days together in the mountains of the French Alps working on IC choreography and movement coaching while holding present within them the theme of "The body is the subconscious". And boy, did we get to work through a lot together. It was a space of joy, discovery, discomfort, tears, and breakthroughs. It was raw, it was tender, it was courageous, and it was real.
Together we navigated the peaks and troughs that come with learning and discovering together, and it was well rewarded with lots of hugs, love, dancing, fondue, and s'mores at the end.
IC work can be a lonely profession as a department of one, but it doesn't have to be. Community is essential, you have to find your people.
If the above resonates with you, I encourage you to apply to train with IPA. Applications for our next session end on December 20, 2024 and can be found on the website.
Lots of love,
Amanda Blumenthal
