Ollie’s back in preparation for the Molokai to Oahu - the world’s most gruelling open ocean paddle race. Last time it was the stress and pressure of the unknown, and this time it is the welcomed pressure of wanting to move from 4th to 1st. We put Ollie into practical simulations that replicate both mental and physical stress and fatigue to get him used to working with the agitation with calm and control so that come race day, he’s right at home. . 📸🥷 @conn.stods

The first session we have of every camp is a chat which sets the tone and a theme for the rest of the camp. That was 12 weeks ago and within the first 5 minutes I was told “trust me, I’m going to get this guy out of there in the first 2 rounds” The theme for this camp was FOCUS. . The ability to focus under pressure requires incredible mental stability. It’s hard to focus when your mind is agitated and if you can’t focus you can’t be creative. And how you bridge the gap between stress/ pressure and excitement/ anticipation is through creativity. Your ability to see things through a different lens and tell yourself the right story is everything. . The win is great but the deeper message behind the win is what truely matters. We get stuck in our own heads and we worry so much about what other people think and we fear failure because it exposes our vulnerabilities. And so we avoid things and that is the problem because if you want to achieve anything worthwhile in life you have to put yourself in the fire - be willing to go toward the fear, apprehension, tension, uncertainty and discomfort and be ok with failure which is just a stepping stone to success, if you use it appropriately. . One of the biggest issues I see with the clients I work with is fear of failure and fear of letting people down. It’s a behaviour that leaves us stagnant and not truely able to grow and be confident and content. If your not challenging yourself then there is no personal growth. Just look at what this man has achieved by simply being willing to pull down his own personal barriers to self betterment, because we all have them. . We can learn a lot from this man’s message - I know I have. When you surround yourself by people who want to excel and don’t let the external and even the internal noise hold them back, it is very contagious. . @stylebender pleasure doing business with you - up and up 🎯🦛 . 📸 @conn.stods . #focus#stylebender

We all lack confidence in some areas. The way that you view confidence can totally change your ability to train it as a skill. Confidence is not a feeling, confidence is embodied in action and is simply the willingness to try. By pushing self doubt aside and getting out of your head and putting yourself out there regardless of the outcome, over time you create competence which leads to confidence. Courage comes first, the courage to try even if you don’t feel ready or you’re worried about failing. . Building confidence is not done by thinking, it’s done by taking action. . 🥷📸 @conn.stods

This is from a recent Calm Under Pressure Youth Athlete Workshop. A power phrase is a simple way to interrupt doubt and shift back into a more controlled state when you’re under pressure. Short, personalised phrases like this send a signal from the brain to the body that you’re in control. Having something prepared gives you something to go to when it matters, reducing cognitive load and building a pattern of control under stress. 🎥 @spicyspil #CalmUnderPressure #PerformancePsychology #SelfTalk #MentalTraining #StressControl

Part of challenging yourself is putting yourself in situations you’re not used to, at a level of pressure you haven’t experienced before. Stress control is your ability to regulate your physical and mental state so you can perform under pressure. That starts with learning how to shift from whatever state you’re in into one of calm. That’s a skill that you can train. Then you apply it in real situations where pressure is high, and you need to stay in control of your emotions and actions. 🎥 @spicyspil #StressControl #MentalTraining #PerformancePsychology #HighPerformance #CalmUnderPressure

when you get stuck under pressure it’s often not the situation. It’s that you’ve locked into one way of seeing it, usually as a threat or potential failure. That interpretation feels real and you get stuck in it. . By stopping in that moment slowing your breathing and relaxing your body you give yourself time, you create space. Now you can ask, what else could this mean? . Doing this gives you options, and now you can choose how you respond. Novak was so dialled into this stuff 🎾🥷 🎥 @spicyspil

A lot of people are talking about what Jiří didn’t do. But they’re missing what actually changed the fight. It was Carlos Ulberg’s ability to stay calm under pressure. He stayed in control and shifted the dynamic of the fight. That’s a trained response, something Carlos has dialed in over his entire career. @carlosulberg 🎥 @spicyspil #ufc #UFC327

Just got to witness one of the most powerful lessons in life: never give up. . Over 20 years in the making. Imagine all the setbacks, the hardships and the level of self belief you have to have to pull that off. . Never in the existence of mankind has life been easy. Those who truly believe in and back themselves despite setbacks and hardships give themselves opportunities in life. Nothing is handed to us, you gotta work tooth and nail for it. Immensely proud of this guy. . UFC light heavyweight champion of the world @carlosulberg ⚔️🥷⚔️. . 📸 @conn.stods
