What exactly are we saving SA Film & TV jobs from?
Before the current collapse, our industry was a powerhouse:
• It employed 60,000 full-time and freelance workers.
• It supported over 100,000 indirect jobs.
• It generated R8–10 billion in annual production value.
• It had a young, vibrant workforce 67% were under 35.
Today, we are fighting to save those livelihoods from administrative paralysis and mismanagement. Since 2020, the sector has contracted by almost 50%.
We aren’t just saving “movies” we are saving an entire economic ecosystem from being pushed to the brink.

South African cinematographer Ntobeko Dlamini SASC (@ntobeko_thirdeye ) has been shooting @tshedzapictures ’ “Adulting” – the first long-form TV series to be captured with ALEXA 35 in Africa. “The superb dynamic range has allowed me more time to focus on lighting, story, and characters,” says Dlamini. “Shooting an average of 12 pages per day, the ALEXA 35 not only allowed me to work faster, but also ensured supreme image quality.”
