My final studio class at UCLA design school was by far my favorite! I got to combine all of my hand drafting and rendering skills with those I’d developed in various CAD programs for this loft apartment design. The program was to take an empty Mid-Century Modern office building on Wilshire and turn the top floor into a luxury penthouse loft with a rooftop entertainment area to serve as a part-time living space for a hypothetical European art curator coming to work at a museum in LA. We had to choose one piece of art from a different time period than when the building was constructed (1957) to center our design around and serve as a focal point in the living room. I chose the Impressionist painting “The Farm Maid” by French painter Alfred Roll (1887) because it spoke to the client’s Eurocentric roots and I loved the soft, earthy colors that I felt would help soften up the Mid-Mod characteristics of the space like the breeze block walls and ribbon windows. We were given nothing but blank floor plans of this awkward rhomboidal space to work from, and I’m really proud of how I was able to combine the feminine elements derived from the painting with the modern architecture of the space. Swipe for more renderings, mood boards, floor plans, section views, my hand drafted midterm board, and photos of the building shell we were working with. Design school was one the hardest things I’ve ever done, but truly one of my biggest accomplishments! #uclaarchitecture #uclaarchid #interiordesign
my first foray into digital modeling during design school presented me with a huge learning curve, but i quickly fell in love when it came time to render. for the program, we were given autocad as-built plans for a modern house in venice beach, and every week throughout the semester we worked on our 3-d models using sketchup. the last few weeks were spent detailing our models with materials, textures, and furniture, and rendering views for the final presentation board. i really enjoyed learning sketchup and how to design in the third dimension, but had even more fun tweaking the light and manipulating views for the final renderings using the podium extension! first few slides are my final renderings, last couple slides are from a mid-semester presentation of our modeling progress. #ulcaarchitecture #uclaarchid #interiordesign
i finished interior design school three years ago and forgot to post anything about it, oops! here’s some random drawings from my hand drafting classes that i was proud of. more to come soon! (p.s. line weights are hard 🙃) #uclaarchitecture #uclaarchid #interiordesign
ten years ago, during my sophomore year of college, i heard the album “the albatross,”and i’ve carried it with me ever since. i’m so grateful i got to hear one of my favorite bands play it front to back on two stops of their ten year anniversary tour. first i got an albatross tattoo, and now i got the setlist. thank you, @foxing .
