📷 by @wildlingsnaturekids : For the past month the Wildlings families have been raising painted lady butterflies from caterpillars. The kids watched them grow from tiny caterpillars to giant ones over the course of just a few days and then checked multiple times per day to see how many had built their chrysalises. Fun fact: butterflies make chrysalises, while moths make cocoons. Two weeks later and the butterflies started emerging!
And today was the big butterfly release. After checking the weather every 15 minutes in the lead up, we were fairly confident the rain would stay away long enough. The rain *did* hold off and it was the most magical and chaotic scene. Some flew away immediately, some needed coaxing to leave their enclosures, and a few stuck around to check out the flowers and make friends with the kids.
