How to amplify the power of community 📝 @ourpower.scot
1. Find the story — Our Power is a campaign with community energy at its heart. This needed to be seen throughout the branding process and then felt in the final identity.
2. Bring everyone together — The campaign was built by a coalition of many partners, all with their own ideas about how the identity should look and feel. We brought them all together to establish the driving force of the brand, so that we could fully understand all angles and perspectives.
3. Explore the possibilities — We experimented with different visual approaches and styles, exploring as a group what worked and what didn’t quite hit right.
4. Land the idea — Through the process we came upon the idea of a lightning bolt to represent community energy, dynamically rendered in hand-drawn sharpie. This naturally took on the rough form of Scotland’s mainland and islands, and from here, the brand really crystalised and almost began to form itself.
5. Extend the system — Once we secured the core icon of the campaign, the rest of the brand came together as a joyful mix of typography, icons and bold collage styles.

A closer look at the brand toolkit for @ourpower.scot
We combined clear, unpretentious type with hand-drawn icons and ‘power lines’ to help the campaign talk about a range of issues, from jobs to wealth to housing.
The campaign celebrates the power and potential of community, so we felt strongly we should include these tactile, human elements to ground the identity in something personal and real.
@ourpower.scot ’s hand-drawn logo represents the electricity at the centre of the campaign, while also referencing the geography of Scotland’s mainland and islands, firmly rooting the campaign in the country and its communities.

The @cleancitiescampaign Electrify London manifesto is now live! This was a very fun brand identity to create, and it’s even better to see the manifesto printed and delivered (by cargo bike and taxi) to decision makers around London. Like @pedalmeapp says, it’s a powerful thing ⚡️
