One of my students said this to me today. Not as a request - just thinking out loud. Wondering if something like that was even possible.
I smiled and told him, "It is. Want to see how?"
What started as a simple question turned into an impromptu live demo. Right there in class, I showed him how to control a household light using just his phone and a relay module.
You should've seen his face light up - no pun intended. That shift from "I wish" to "I can actually do this" is what teaching is all about.
That student didn't just learn about relay modules today. He learned that his ideas aren't too big. That technology isn't some mystery reserved for "experts." That he can build the solutions he imagines.
Today, I built an intelligent gesture-controlled system(LED setup) that lights up based on how many fingers I raise. One finger, one LED. Five fingers, all five. It felt surreal watching everything respond instantly to my hand movements.
I used Python (OpenCV + MediaPipe) for real-time hand tracking and Arduino for the LED control. At first, the logic gave me a tough time , but after remapping the pins and refining the code, everything worked seamlessly.
Seeing those LEDs blink in perfect rhythm with my gestures was pure joy. It reminded me how AI can give physical systems a sense of perception - like teaching them to understand motion and respond intelligently.
Next, I’m taking this idea further. The possibilities are endless.
