Everything in the mural was created for a reason. In this photo you see the apple which signifies knowledge and the complexity of human choice, while the serpent represents both temptation and the capacity for rebirth and healing, shedding old skin to transform into something new. Also visible are the Morning Glory. These flowers open in the morning and close at night. They represent a fresh start and remind us that every day is a new beginning. And thank you much for Devona for adding such creativity and life in our building, long days are gonna feel even better now that we have such a beautiful piece on our wall! Everything in the mural was created for a reason. This mural concept is a visual journey of self-realization, identity, and struggle. In the center, a white man and a black woman stand back-to-back. They represent both diversity and being connected, but also that each have their own path. Their pensive facial expressions show deep thought and the quiet strength of reflection and resilience. Fragments of shattered glass explode outward from them, carrying layered meanings: the fragility of our humanity, the barriers and ceilings we must break through, and the beauty found even in brokenness. The iridescent shards shine and catch the light, showing how we can grow from painful challenges. A glowing butterfly bursts through the glass, showing transformation, new beginnings, and the wisdom gained through hardship. The plants in the garden are full of meaning: lotus flowers show strength and rising above problems, morning glories show a fresh start every day, and proteas show change and being true to yourself. The overall composition carries both dark and light, a tension between despair and hope. It tells a story of pushing through struggle, breaking barriers, and transforming into a truer, stronger self. It’s a celebration of the beauty within fragility and the strength that comes from embracing every piece of who we are. We spent the evening watching the #broadwayacrossamerica musical A Beautiful Noise. The story of Neil Diamond’s life through his incredible lyrics and the mental conflict between one’s calling and its sacrifice. The story is set in a psychotherapy session with the elder Neil Diamond coming to terms with his life. It is fantastic! As a bonus we got this usie with Nick Fradiani who played the younger Neil Diamond. He sang all the songs. We had a great lunch with Cenikor CEO Bill Bailey today. Cenikor was founded in 1967 by James “Luke” Austin while he was incarcerated at the Colorado State Penitentiary. Austin had sought to start a group for Colorado prisoners and eventually named the group Center of the Core of the Individual, shortened to “Cenikor.” Austin reframed so-called confrontational attack therapy as reality therapy and the first Cenikor facility was established in a former Denver, Colorado bakery. Since then Cenikor’s storied history has established the non-profit as one of the most successful drug rehabilitation organizations in the country. President Reagan visited the Houston headquarters and commended Cenikor’s success in operating without government funding and securing private sector support. Over the years we have collected art that we believe is important to mental health. Our founder, JoAnne Mandel, had a soft spot for Peter Max. This particular piece hangs in our building and is favorite. Artists have something to say. The artistic language is the medium - visual, musical, physical. But, the meaning of an art work depends as much on the artist's vision as it does on the beholder. It is not only what does it mean. It is also what it could mean. At InnerWisdom we take this notion very seriously with regards to mental health treatment.
