What an inspiring few days at the All Members Gathering ✨ led by @thecircleonphilanthropy !
We are so grateful to have joined this powerful circle of Indigenous leaders, changemakers, and philanthropic allies. A huge thank you to everyone who shared their stories, questions, and commitments to strengthening equity and impact.
It was an honour for us at The Inner Activist to offer a glimpse into our work through the workshop Conscious Use of Power. The conversations we began together are just the beginning — and we look forward to deepening them in community.

In season two of our Precisely! podcast, host Brooke Lavelle talks with grassroots organizer and Director of the Inner Activist, Jorge Salazar, about the nature of “one-worlding”, and how we can catch it even in our movements for justice and liberation.
Jorge moved to Canada as a refugee from Colombia in late 2000, and has used his own immigration journey, life experiences, training and education to bridge communities and facilitate positive change within government, organizations and grassroots groups for more than 15 years. Jorge has worked to support connections between diverse communities, particularly between indigenous, immigrants and refugees among others, in BC, Canada and the Americas. He has worked with Immigrant Services Society of BC, MOSAIC, the International Institute for Child Rights and Development - University of Victoria, City of Vancouver, the Ecumenical Task Force for Justice in the Americas, PeerNet BC and most recently as a Manager for the Fresh Voices Initiative with the Vancouver Foundation.
Jorge has partnered with Courage on several projects, and currently co-leads our Pluriversal Practice Seminar, which is now available for self study! Link in bio.
A Weekend of Wisdom & Connection 🌟 🌿
A deep bow of gratitude to everyone who joined **Conscious Use of Power** this past weekend. Your courage and curiosity made this journey so powerful.
Huge thanks to our brilliant trainers, @aslam.alaykum and @dumondcamille , for guiding us with such insight and heart. And to @tamamfinepalestiniancuisine for the nourishing meals, and @vancouverfdn for the excellent space—this wouldn’t have been the same without you.
More reflections and programs coming! —the ripples are just beginning. 💫

In order to be effective in the work of social change, we need to engage in the inner work of understanding our own power and our responsibility.
Over the past few years, the Inner Activist has been challenged to reflect on how to truly embody our values of compassionate, reflective and responsive leadership.
We have engaged in extensive conversations, consultations and healing work towards this goal.
We invite you to read the letter to learn more about our work and our commitment to true change.

The Inner Activist (A project of MakeWay) is offering a 2-day course called Conscious Use of Power, designed for diverse community members within the social justice sector.
Conscious Use of Power deepens our understanding of the conflicts, polarization, and feelings (such as anger, pain, guilt, helplessness, apathy, and despair) caused by abuse of power and the resulting trauma. We explore the development of our social identities, both marginalized and dominant, as sources of strength and wisdom, and as places of deep wounding.
Practices to get us ‘unstuck’ and help us tap into our psychological and spiritual power will free our capacity to hold difference and to consciously use all forms of power, resourcing ourselves and our communities.
Facilitators of the course work with participants to support the inner and outer changes which build solidarity, ally-ship, and collective power.
Our goal is to support a community of practice committed to self-awareness and skillfully use diverse forms of power to create a more just world.
Through participating in the course, participants will:
✅ Increase Self-Awareness
✅ Build their leadership capacity
✅ Explore how their learning can be applied
✅ Develop on a common language to explore issues of power and privilege

Hello from The Inner Activist!
Our work is to co-create learning spaces to for leaders to reflect and grow in their work towards social justice.
The Inner Activist has had to reflect on how to truly embody our values of compassionate, reflective and responsive leadership.
We have engaged in extensive internal conversations, consultations and healing work towards this goal.
We will share a summary of these learnings, and the work that is to come.
In the meantime, we are eager to be back in community and back to our work, which is more important now than ever.
Part of this is launching our first two-day course on Conscious Use of Power, coming in May. Stay tuned and follow us or send us a message for more information. Website link in bio.
