First impressions count right?! Yup, they do! When you look back on your significant relationships I’m sure you can remember how you met. Even if you can’t recall the details of what happened, I bet you can remember how that person made you FEEL. . This is something I pride myself and my business on. It’s not about showing up all glitzy, it’s not even about having the whiz bang slickest PowerPoint presentation (although we do love a good slideshow!), we consistently get outstanding feedback about how I and my team make people feel: at ease, relaxed, hopeful, empowered, contained... . In some tricky and hopeless situations we are often the hope catchers, the exception finders, the dream acknowledgers. We meet people where they’re at, even if it’s apparently dire. And we take things from there. And because we take the time to truly connect with you, we can understand the problem dimensions and contract a cracking piece of work! . What do people tell you about your first impressions? How do you make them feel? . #psychologistsofinstagram #psychology #nestingcoach #communitypsychology #schoolpsychology #mentalhealthawareness #staffwellbeing #employeementalhealth #iblamejulie

An important reminder delivered with creativity and finesse! Enjoy! . I’m loving that from this horrendous situation there are creatives all over the world channeling their talents in a new and exciting way. Multiples of business owners adjusting to their new normals while discovering so many new things about themselves. If there’s anything good to come from this situation, I’m thinking exponential creativity is definitely one. . Thank you @deandre408 for this cheeky little number 🤣🤣🤣❤️ (And for anyone offended by the reference of “Ms” Rona....please gain some perspective on life right now - sure it could’ve gone either way!🤦🏾‍♀️) . What about you? Have you found yourself doing anything slightly creative during this time? . #msrona #coronavirus #creativepower #creative #singing #pivot #businessowner #teachersofinstagram #psychologist

In terms of where we are in the process of accepting and moving through the covid-19 pandemic, there are a lot of lessons in this period of everything grinding to a halt. I’m calling them ‘lockdownlessons’ and will share them here for my own reference to reflect on later when c-19 is but a distant memory, but also to share with you to see what lessons might resonate with us collectively in society. Please feel free to share your own #lockdownlessons with me also! . Some may be profound, others silly - who says life is always serious, even in the gravest of situations? . So here’s my first #lockdownlesson: the difference between wants and needs suddenly got clearer, right?! I’m thinking of the multiple trips to the supermarket to ‘pick up a few things’ over the years that I realise now were wholly unnecessary. I haven’t been to the supermarket in two weeks (thankfully!) and I’m certain we’ve thrown away fewer items in the process. No, we didn’t stockpile! Just a normal shop, and we’ve made things last and been more considered in how we use them. . Just because I might WANT some sweet and salted popcorn doesn’t mean I NEED it! I’d rather sit my ass down, have a biscuit and avoid unnecessary exposure to Corona, thank you very much!🍪👍🏾😊 . Has the difference between wants and needs suddenly got a bit clearer for you? How so? Let us know!😊 . #lockdownlessons #wantsandneeds #corona #supermarket #necessity #

Thank you @pregnant_then_screwed for sharing my exact thoughts on this!... . Posted @withregram@pregnant_then_screwed Motherhood is feminism’s final frontier. to date, it has mainly been skipped over by Politicians, campaigners, even feminist organisations. An afterthought when the main work has been done. More of an inconvenience if anything. But mothers aren’t an inconvenience, we are the building blocks of society and we deserve a society that works for us. I’ve grown tired of seeing events that are programmed for women which take place at a child’s bedtime, where the reality that some women can only attend if their children can attend as well is completely ignored. I’ve heard from women who have been cast out of women’s events for breastfeeding their hungry babies, and recently a woman lost the funding she had secured because she dared to get pregnant. Childcare is hardly ever seen as a necessary business expense, even though many women can’t work without it. Women own a uterus. If you ignore children, you ignore mothers; and the needs of mothers are ignored in the workplace by every sector and ever industry every god damn day. So I’m just here, on a Wednesday evening, reminding you that mothers are important and we do deserve systems and a society that work for us. #pregnantthenscrewed #marchingon #marchofthemummies

Are you planning on Milking Your Mat Leave?! So I was ready to pop with my first pregnancy, about 8.5 months in. And I recall a conversation with a somewhat younger, male colleague about how women get to ‘milk their time off’, particularly before the baby arrives. How dare we take time off for antenatal appointments, let alone to prepare ourselves before baby arrives! I think said guy would’ve been happier if we popped em out on our lunch break then got on with it in the office. After all “it’s not like your sick, is it?” (Let’s just say I hope the karma stick does its work with him over the years so he understands fully what becoming a parent is all about). Anyway, the phrase got me thinking. Why the hell SHOULDN’T we ‘milk’ our mat leaves?! To me, ‘milking it’ makes me think of making the most out of the opportunity. Creating headspace. Being reflective. Trying new things. Relaxing. Having some FUN. Life’s about to change irreversibly. So here’s to all the women out there unashamedly milking their mat leaves, before the baby comes along and milks them! Tell me, how are you milking yours? #milkmatleave #maternity #nestingcoach #mumtobe #momtobe

So following yesterday’s rant about the Lama I’m here again. Evidently, the gods of assholery are trying to kill me off this week. But I won’t surrender to them, Ms Widdecombe or her ill thought out Brexit metaphors! Ffs!!!!😩😩😩😩😩 Lesson for the day? Don’t let anyone use the pain of your historical narrative to justify their...well...(tempted to use that jamaicanism again...🤣🤣🤣!) foolishness, when they don’t know the first thing about the historical, social, emotional and psychological gravity of said history. #brexit #politics #slavery #rant #narratives

THAT interview!!! 🤣🤣🤣 You couldn’t make it up! And as much as the press team have done its best to back peddle the hell outta this thing, this is yet another message from the world that the game is up. Humans are humans are humans. And the world doesn’t care if we want to elevate the status of some more than others (US president, anyone?), their tendency to have asshole thoughts and say asshole things is irrefutable! My assumption was that in the title ‘Dalai Lama’ sat an astounding level of consciousness, piety and transcendence that I could only dream of. Definitely not the racist nationalistic adages of Alf Garnett (if you’re under 35 you won’t have a clue who that is- I know!🙈) “Europe for Europeans!” or the misogynistic prediction of only a supermodel-esque female successor.... D’ya know, this post was intended to say something about empathy as that’s one of my core values but I’m struggling here. All I find is a barrage of excuses: it was a joke, he’s 84, it’s culturally misinterpreted! Suffice to say this post is now about how difficult it is to empathise with some people who have a powerful platform and appear to misuse it for...I can only use a Jamaicanism here...f**kry! Thank you Dalai Lama, I have well and truly learnt my lesson and will: 1) never again join the bandwagon of believing a title can tell you anything about a person 2) expect that humans believe all sorts of prejudiced thoughts, often alongside the most profound beliefs 3) acknowledge even moreso now that empathising with some people/students/staff can be bloody difficult at times 4) realise that even though empathy might be necessary to understand where someone is coming from, it doesn’t necessitate shrugging off statements or actions that need publicly questioning or calling out. #empathy #dalailama #educationalpsychology #educationalpsychologist #schoolpsychologist #innercircles #selfcareseries #status #influencer
