Opportunities to preserve our shared history, have meaningful conversations with neighbors, and enrich the quality of life for all Hoosiers are at risk. While this news is disheartening and it might change the way we operate, it won’t stop us from continuing to spark curiosity, build connection, and share Hoosiers’ stories. It’s the people and partnerships that keep us going, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your continued support. If you have the capacity to support us and our partners during this time, visit our website to learn more about ways to act now.

In 10 days (!!!) I’ll be moderating a talk about @isaac.fitzgerald new book American Rambler: Walking the Trail of Johnny Appleseed I grew up near Fort Wayne - going to Tin Caps games, I hid under the giant golden apple sculpture in the Glenbrook mall, eating a nearly sickening amount of apple crisp at the yearly festival - and the legend of John Chapman has always loomed large for me. So, I’m very excited to get to have this conversation with Isaac. @loudmouthindy books will be hosting this event at @inhumanities - so grab your tickets and come hang out with us!

Put your hands together for Jayda Dawn, the 2026 Poetry Out Loud National Champion! Dawn represented Indiana in Washington, D.C., this week, reciting "The Weary Blues" by Langston Hughes from memory, among other poems. She will receive a $20,000 award and $500 for her school, University High School, to purchase poetry materials. This is the first year Dawn has competed in Poetry Out Loud. Dawn's teacher, Kirkland Austin, supported her throughout the competition and accompanied her to Washington, D.C., for the finals. This is the second time in four years that a student from Indiana has won the national title, with Sreepadaarchana Munjuluri from Columbus North High School winning in 2023. Indiana is one of just three states and jurisdictions to have two national winners. Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program of the National Endowment for the Arts presented locally in partnership with Indiana Humanities and the Indiana Arts Commission and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts.
