Barentsburg is a Russian mining town on Norwegian ground. I visited Barentsburg on Svalbard for The Economist this summer. Read the full article with link in bio.

This winter I visited Kirkenes for NZZ, and together with journalist Linda Koponen we joined the Norwegian Police Security Service patrolling the Russian border. Check out the story in link in bio.

I love to watch the exhibition develop and change with the light. Also the the grass and trees growing greener change the expression. The exibition Norwegian Travellers / Reisende folk is on display all summer i Tromsø at @perspektivetmuseum Folkeparken. The last six years I have been photographing Norwegian romani people, a national minority.

From the book Barents Portraits (2013) that I made with writer Arne Egil Tønset. A book where we met people from the Northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. This was from the only story from my own home town, Tromsø.

I am very happy that these photos were selected for the group exhibition Nordnorsken and they are on display @svolvarkunstforening.no from tomorrow March 4th - opening at 1 pm. Eternit boards were the perfect building material. Cement mixed with asbestos was supposed to be maintenance free and became very popular in the fifties and sixties, particularly along the coast where the weather can be rough. In the seventies it was discovered that the asbestos was highly dangerous when handled. In Norway it was forbidden to produce Eternit from 1978. It is not dangerous when the boards stay untouched, and still there are Eternit board houses spread all around the country. The material that once was the future, is now a memory of a bygone era. For more Eternit houses, please check out my account @norske_eternitthus #lofoten #asbestos #eternit #flakphotowinter #reinøya #kvaløya
