Reconfiguring, re-dyeing, ripping and sewing back together again, fermenting, dissolving, melting, digesting. My table of stretched time, space and living beings landed last month at @alfaia_org for ‘A story told around the fire’ curated by @david.s.reves and it was beautiful to share fermented soda, bread and butter with new and old friends 🌱 ‘Unfurling’ is a piece I’ve exhibited a few times now and it is never the same. The fabrics are re-dyed with whatever plants and pigments I have then, jars filled with whatever needs fermenting, new pieces of dry scoby, soda made of whatever fruit is going, bread and butter made fresh to share. It’s a table with two seats, an invitation to share time with creatures other than ourselves. It sits seemingly still until the exhibition ends but in fact, is brimming with micro-activity, jars bubbling, colours fading. Someone stirs the soda every other day. The exhibition ‘A story told around the fire’ is on until 11 March @alfaia_org with these wonderful humans: @ani_schulze @marianagomesgoncalves @ritaiferreira @zonaingravida @pjorgeserra @sofiemalie Thank you @david.s.reves for the beautiful invitation and @alfaia_org for having us 🧡 Photos by 1. @rita___subtil 3.@sofiemalie and remaining @__luisbranca__ @stills_portugal Cotton and linen fabric dyed with plants (oak gall, madder root, dyer’s alkanet, onion skins, marigold, avocado pits and skins, turmeric, black walnut), beeswax, bronze, dried scoby, black badger peas and maris bead fava beans, fermented sweetheart cabbage, fermented raspberry soda, marigold kombucha, dry bread, rosehips, plums preserved in beeswax.

‘Sourdough jacket’ (2022) - a travelling, wearable sculpture, inspired by stories of travellers and migrants travelling with dry ferments in their pockets - pieces of cloth embedded with starters for various things... preserved indefinitely, ready to be reawakened wherever they end up. Dirty cloths to outside eyes, but, in reality, portals into a whole world. This piece is lined with dry sourdogh starter that I spread on cloth. Dormant yeasts, ready to unfold into many breads. The jacket may keep your body warm and also become a source for sustenance, filled with possibilities for multiplication and renewal. What you take out, you can add back in again, in perpetuity. Cyclical breads. The jacket had its first gentle outing through the @arthealingcollective , with lots of encouragement from @beccapf for our exhibition Spring Gathering @sanmeigallery 💫 in the 3rd pic, I’m wearing it while giving a workshop on fermented sodas 🍒 which we fermented with sourdough starter. It then headed to @whitechapelgallery , hung on a sourdough bread hanger 🧡 Images 1&2: photo by Sam Nightingale. Co-directing @thegramounce is to dream, to constantly hold things, to always run after something we don’t quite know exists but we hope it does. It is softening corners and sharpening pillows. It’s a little bit impossible but also the most obvious thing. It’s holding our breath and closing our eyes and learning through our bellies and guts. Applications for next year’s FOOD & ART altMA are closing this SUNDAY, apply and join us to see the world through food: the ideal (and honestly the OG) world building material 🥔🥚🌽🥦🥐🦐🍇🧀 via @thegramounce Thank you to our most amazing team of wizards, cooks and magical creatures @barneypau @noajansma @ines.coelho.da.silva @kevin.bello.art @milaordo and to the greatest co-dreamer of them all @noramutcho ✨💖🌷 — Photos and impressions from our recent residency in Mexico with @colectivo_amasijo , who took us on a deeply moving and complex journey through the foodways of CDMX and beyond, held by generosity and their affective network. Inês Neto dos Santos & Sina Hensel → Duo exhibition → Opening Thu 13 November, 18:00-21:00 → Wintertuin @royalacademyantwerp We warmly invite you to the final presentations/ work-in-progress/ gatherings for two research projects from the Art & Ecology research group of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. In this exhibition, colour and fermentation meet as parallel gestures of belonging and adaptation. ‘The Future Is a Purple Tree’ by Sina Hensel traces how plants protect themselves through pigment – a more-than-human gesture that offers ways to see and sense environmental shifts and local resilience. ‘Collective Gestures’ by Inês Neto dos Santos follows the slow work of fermentation, where microbes, textiles and human stories travel together across borders and time. Brought into dialogue, these projects invite attention to processes that sustain life beyond the human, and that might inform more grounded ways of living with the land- and waterscapes that we call our home. ________________ → OPENING Thursday 13 November, 18:00 - 21:00 With a reading by Inês Neto dos Santos, followed by a conversation among Sina Hensel, Inês Neto dos Santos and Roel Arkesteijn. → Exhibition until 20 November 2025 🔗 More info via #linkinbio ________________ (image details: left - Inês Neto dos Santos / right - Sina Hensel) @sinahensel @inesns #researchroyalacademyantwerp #artandresearchantwerp #artisticresearch #royalacademyantwerp #inesnetodossantos #sinahensel #artandecology

📸 @adriano_ferreira_borges / @braga25cpc — 🥕 This past Saturday, at the picnic area of the Horta Urbana da Quinta das Lameiras, we gathered to celebrate the outcome of a series of sessions led by Inês Neto dos Santos, together with gardeners and neighbours of the community garden. Over the course of three workshops — paced by the slow rhythm of fermentation — vegetables from the garden were fermented, but so too were ideas, texts and bonds, between people, plants and microorganisms. It was a chance to look back, look over, underneath and inside out — as the title of the activation suggests — exploring forms of neighbourliness that cross time, space, and shared ecosystems. 🥒 The activation ended with a shared lunch, served over fabrics dyed during the workshops, sheltered by the architectural installation designed by the @ram_arquitetura — a collective moment of digestion and reading of poems written by the participants.

_________________ HOW TO LOOK BACK, FROM ABOVE, FROM UNDERNEATH AND INSIDE OUT by Inês Neto dos Santos 📅 2 August, 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. 📍 Lameiras Urban Garden, Braga 🔔 Free participation, registration required (link in bio). In the first two sessions, @inesns led us through the garden and introduced us to the use and preparation of its produce for natural fermentation. About a month later, on 2 August, we’ll gather again around the table to see — and taste — the results of that process… and to enjoy other delicious things the artist has in store for us. Who’s joining us for this shared moment around a beautiful table? 📸 DDP @danielduartep_

📸 Sara Pinheiro @ph_sarapinheiro ___________ The River’s Tongue was a dinner presentation at Casa Jardim da Estrela in Lisbon, the final part of the residency project " Lisbon Spice Rack" by the artists Rain Wu, Inês Neto dos Santos and Mariana Salvador, which investigated the edible wild landscapes on the banks of the River Tagus. For the last year, Inês Neto dos Santos, Mariana Salvador and I have been working on an artistic project ‘Lisbon Spice Rack’, looking into wild modes of eating and integrating foraged plants with Portuguese staple dishes. We found kin in the Salinas do Samouco, the salt marshes on the opposite bank of River Tagus from Lisbon, learning about the ecosystems of the halophytes there. This week, we present The River’s Tongue, a dinner presentation at Casa Jardim da Estrela in Lisbon as the final outcome of our research!
