Hummel Park, which straddles White Lick Creek near Plainfield, has a unique denizen frolicking in its woods and meadows. A rare piebald squirrel calls the 205-acre park in Guilford Township home. There is plenty of space there for the freckly white, brown and yellow fellow to romp and roam among the spring violets and dandelions. In 1909, the auto plants needed workers. And those workers needed homes. A few years earlier, U.S. Steel had established the city of Gary, Indiana as a company town to house the employees of its new plant on the shores of Lake Michigan. Inspired by the Gary model, All traffic would be motorized because, according to Carl Fisher, “[a]nybody with even the dullest foresight can visualize the passing of the horse as a factor in transportation.” Tap the link in bio for more.

Annie Torres walked more than three miles each way to and from work from her apartment in Indianapolis, often in the dark. Much of the route lacks pedestrian infrastructure. She wore a headlamp and high-visibility gear, and in areas without sidewalks, like where she was found, she walked in the grass. As soon as her family learned that she hadn't shown up for work two days in a row, they knew something was wrong. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' consumer price index, its measure of inflation, revealed prices rose 0.6% from March to April and were up 3.8% from a year ago. Those readings came in above forecasters’ expectations and mark inflation's highest level in nearly three years. A 5.4% rise in gas prices over the month again drove the increase, following a record 21.2% spike in March. Over the year, gas prices are up 28.4%. Shoppers may have noticed their grocery bills rise in April, as the BLS’ food at home index increased 0.7%, following a 0.2% dip in March. Over the year, they are up 2.9%.
