Work Description A hydrofeminist, somatic dance film dissolving the boundaries between the body, its cities, and the ancient meadowlands that lie beneath Berlin. *** Here's a gem from the archive that never got an official release until now. As a film that explores the potential of the camera to communicate somatic dance and its delicate, subtle movements, Waterlog is close to my heart. I shot it with dancer Mathilde Mensink / @tending_the_wild_body right before I moved away from Berlin for the UK, and it contains something of the essence of the emotions and inner textures I discovered while living in that city and its swamps. Dave Carroll and Freddy Avis (Arswain) created a beguiling, moist sound design and score respectively, with a beautiful, poetic voiceover by Mathilde. COLLAPSE Duet by Safire Hikari & indexthumb Mentored by Wanda Moretti *COLLAPSE* is a low-fly harness duet blending vertical dance, film, and contemporary performance. It explores how the body holds emotional, social, and political weight—and how movement can become a form of collective release and transformation. Inspired by the Italian ritual of Tarantism, the work draws on repetition, rhythm, and spinning as tools for healing, reimagined through a contemporary dance language. A filmmaker is suspended alongside the dancer, with live video projected in real time. The camera becomes an aerial performer, offering an intimate perspective and revealing unseen tensions, connections, and “collapses” within the body and apparatus. At its core, *COLLAPSE* reflects on trust, care, and community—inviting audiences to consider how we support one another in times of instability. They focus on moving image’s capacity to alter, enhance, and reorient somatic awareness, and the parallels between these processes and queer/trans+ perception. Kuba Pawelczak is a Polish Butoh dancer, theatre maker, and movement practitioner based in London. His artistic practice is shaped through engagement with theories of psychophysical theatre. Zara Sands is an interdisciplinary artist working across performance, choreography, installation and moving image. Her practice focuses on utilising the body as malleable and illusive, with ideas stemming from dreamscapes, dystopias, body horror, the instability of perception, and the body as a site of distortion and metamorphosis. Sophia Marie Davison is a makeup and prosthetic artist working across film, fashion, and live performance. With a strong interest in storytelling, Sophia uses skin as a transformative canvas to create character-driven work.
