For centuries, Yehliu’s “Queen’s Head” has stood facing the northern sea of Taiwan.
Yet in several 17th-century nautical maps, this coastline carried another name:
“Punto Diablos” — the Devil’s Cape.
As the Gleam International Early Music Festival Taiwan – España 400 enters its final month and a half, the closing chapter will soon be revealed.

四百年來,台灣北方海岸佇立著一座凝望海洋的蕈狀岩,她就是今日野柳地質公園最著名的「女王頭」
長年海風與東北季風持續改變著她的輪廓,而她也見證著這片北方海域數百年來的風浪與歷史。
直到今日,依然有無數觀光客來到野柳岬角,排隊與女王頭合照,成為了台灣最受歡迎與閉經的觀光勝地。
但很少人知道,在四百年前這片北方海岸,曾是17世紀航海者最畏懼的海域之一,並曾為它取了一個恐怖的名字—“Punto Diablos”——「惡魔岬」。

為期三個月的大型國際古樂節,如今也正式邁入最後一個半月。
從三月開始,我們一路從15、16世紀西班牙本地的文藝復興與大航海時代的古樂出發,
並將在5/30古樂節壓軸場《海上絲路的新世界》,跟隨馬尼拉大帆船的航路,抵達殖民時期的墨西哥、阿卡普爾科港(Acapulco)與拉丁美洲,
聽見阿茲提克文化與西班牙天主教音樂的「新西班牙世界」
而在這一切之後——
6/19,《微光國際古樂節:西班牙400年》最重要的「大軸閉幕鉅作」,也即將於本週正式公開!
《⚓️”惡魔的岬角”—野柳》
在部分17世紀西班牙與荷蘭航海圖中,今日野柳一帶,因為突出的岬角、暗礁、海流與東北季風,經常發生船難,
使這片海岸在大航海時代成為航海者眼中極具風險的北方海角。
所以被標記為:“Punto Diablos” 「惡魔岬」。
根據中研院台灣史研究者翁佳音,以及長年研究西班牙時代台灣史的學者—鮑曉鷗 等人的論述:
野柳與「惡魔岬」之間的關聯,牽涉17世紀北台灣航海圖、地名語音轉化,以及西班牙人自馬尼拉北航抵達雞籠時所面對的危險海域。
有研究觀點認為,西班牙語 “Diablos” 在閩南語與地方口語的長期轉化中,開頭的 D 子音與部分複合音逐漸被簡化,最後演變成接近今日「野柳(Iá-liú)」的發音形式。
這項說法目前仍屬地名學上的研究與討論線索,但也讓今日的野柳海岸,留下了一層與17世紀西班牙航海時代相連的歷史想像。

My change of decade was accompanied by the most wonderful professional gift: recording the holy grail of the cornettist once again. This time with my precious team and just as I had dreamed.

We are approaching the end of our recording of Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine.
It has been a remarkable journey to rediscover this monumental work in its birthplace, Mantova. Together with a wonderful group of musicians, we have spent more than a week recording inside the stunning Basilica di Santa Barbara — truly a dream come true!
