Oldham is leading the way! 🌟
We’re proud to share that 50 Oldham students have become the very first in Greater Manchester to be awarded landmark MEGA Scholarships – opening doors to future careers in cyber and technology. 💻🔐
Students from across our borough – Oldham College, North Chadderton Sixth Form, Crompton House, Blue Coat, and Oldham Sixth Form College – are blazing a trail as part of this pioneering MEGA (Motivated, Educated, Generation with Ambition) Hubs programme, developed by professional technology training and skills provider IN4 Group and funded by Oldham Council.
🎉 A special celebration event, attended by Jim McMahon, MP for Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton, was hosted by sponsor First Choice Homes Oldham.
Through MEGA Scholarships, these talented young people will gain:
💷 A £1,000 bursary
🤝 Mentoring and industry placements
💡 Hackathons, workplace visits and masterclasses
🎓 The option to study for a cyber security qualification that counts towards UCAS points, or earn industry-recognised Microsoft and AWS qualifications
🌍 Connections with world-leading companies including KPMG UK, Northrop Grumman, CGI, BT, QinetiQ, Roke, and Energus

🎓⚙️50 Oldham students awarded GM's first MEGA Scholarships
Earlier this month, we were proud to host Greater Manchester’s first-ever MEGA Scholarships event right here in Oldham.
Developed by IN4 Group and funded by Oldham Council, the initiative celebrated 50 outstanding students from Oldham College, North Chadderton Sixth Form, Crompton House Sixth Form, The Blue Coat Sixth Form College, and Oldham Sixth Form College. Each student was honoured with a commemorative plaque and a MEGA goodie bag to mark their achievement.
The launch followed an earlier assessment centre event, where 84 students from across Oldham took part in a competitive day of tasks, including coding challenges, responding to a ransomware attack, soft skills development, and speed networking with industry professionals, to secure their scholarship place.
As part of the programme, each scholarship student will receive a £1,000 bursary, mentoring, workplace visits, hackathons, industry placements, and the option of undertaking a cyber security qualification, counting towards UCAS points, or industry-recognised Microsoft and AWS qualifications.

This year, IN4 Group and @manchesterunitedfoundation have #MEGAhubs, #MEGAevents, and #CyberFirst days across #GreaterManchester - immersive, hands-on sessions that inspire the next generation of digital talent.
👩💻 From VR workshops to AI challenges, students from all backgrounds are exploring exciting careers in cyber and tech.
💬 “The children we work with don’t usually get these kinds of opportunities. Using high-tech and VR equipment has opened their eyes—it’s been amazing for them,” says Tony Ensor, MUF Lifeskills Co-ordinator.
✨ And the students agree—leaving these sessions more inspired, with bigger dreams and clearer paths to their future.
